An Introduction
 

Hello everyone. My names Mick Ignis. I'm an aspiring filmmaker in Los Angeles who's held a love and fascination with the Macabre/Strange/Spooky my entire life. I'm relatively new to message boards but decided to join this one in order to talk more with people who share my interests (I really don't get out enough). So let's break the ice, shall we?

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)

I'm an aspiring Filmmaker, just beginning to get my bearings. I'm working on a Stop-Motion film right now, but have a few other projects on the side. I don't have a specific work place at the moment (although I am searching), but I do work for various people helping organize different events. Some of those events include Bats Day, Fright Night, and other Goth and horror related shows. I'm also the road guy the band "Stolen Babies".

2. Where are you from?

Born and raised in Los Angeles.

3. Who is your favorite author?

I read anything by Poe, Kafka, Shakespeare, or Gaiman. I enjoy classic horror literature, Strange Folklore, and old children's stories as well. I'm also an avid comic book collector.

4. What are your favorite films?

Films by Burton, Kubrick, Lynch, Tarantino, Gilliam, Selick, Brothers Quay or Svankmeyer. Psychological and Classic Horrors, Strange Mysteries, Epic Actions, Experimental Animations, Intelligent Comedies, Film Noirs, and the Charmingly Dark.

My top five would likely include Pulp Fiction, Beetlejuice, Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Frankenstein (original), and Rosemary's Baby.

5. What music do you want played at your wedding?

The Cure and darker tunes played on pipe organ.

6. At your funeral?

It would be a dead man's party with music performed by my close friends.

7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?

I want to grow old and Vincent Price like. I want my death to surprise myself and everyone I know. If I die in bed or in my sleep, I’ll be very pissed off. That's like a good book with a horrible ending.

8. What kind of casket would you want?

The casket I don't care much about. Probably just a comfortable black one, with red interior (sealed tightly to prevent bugs from eating my flesh). The gravestone is what I care about. It would be a huge, elaborate art piece of my own design with plenty of dancing skeletons and such. Something that would make people want to visit my grave.

9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?

It changes with my mood. I have a spider web belt buckle my friend made that's a part of any outfit I wear. It's time for some new clothes though.

10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?

Not much, I couldn't relate to anybody my own age until I left high school for independent study and pursued Goth culture. Childhood was very unpleasant.

11. What's your favorite band?

Split up between Stolen Babies, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, and The Cure. It's an endless list though.

12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?

Preparing to enter Cal Arts in 2007 for Film and Experimental Animation.

13. Why did you join?

To get more in touch with people I actually want to talk to.

Tell us more about the animation. What style? Robot Chicken, Wallace and Grommet, original South Park, or what? With your own twist, of course. Got any of your work online?

The style itself is defined model animation, like you'd see in Tim Burton or Wallace and Gromit films. I'm working on sculpting the puppets right now, then going through the process of armature building and painting. The main film I'm working on will be about 7+ minutes long and shot in black and white. I don't have anything finished online yet, but I hope to have a website up with clips within the next couple months.

It's a long process, but i've been having fun with it.

What psychological horrors are your favorite?
I have exhausted the horror movies that are desirable for me and I want to see if there are some I haven't heard of.

One psychological horror movie I saw recently was Jan Svankmeyer's "Lunacy". It's a take on two Edgar Allan Poe stories and The Marquis de Sade. It's the first film I’ve seen in a while that made me really uncomfortable.
