Matrix neck plug thing

So I realised my neck piercing is in just the right place to fit a Matrix socket thing over it. (You remember those wierd metal cog/disk things stuck to the back of everyone's head in the movie? yeah)

Anyone got any ideas on how I could do it?

Right now I'm thinking I could make a mould using clay, then fill the mould by lining it with papier mache. Then I'd remove the mould, spraypaint the dried papier mache thing blackish silver to match the colour of it in the movie, then varnish or laquer it. Then I may be able to use two fuse clips from an old power plug to make it attach to the two balls on my barbell.

But I'm sure there'll be other methods. Suggestions?

I SAY!!!!

Dermal implant. :P

You could machine it on a metal lathe, and then paint black in some parts...

Or pay someone to do that. :P

Aside from potential cost for the things I imagine them styling pour moi, I have always admired these guys...

wow. Their stuff is impressive! o_o

That gave me another idea. I could melt some plastic into the clay mould, rather than using papier mache. Could be much cleaner and neater. :3 But then I'd need to find out what kind of plastic to use, and how to melt it.

I still like my solid metal idea, but okay... :P

Dude, I don't have a metal lathe, or the skills to use one. :p

Then pay soemone. :P

In the craft and hobby stores, there are different kinds of skin-safe plastics that the model makers use to do their sculptures. You can venture into one and ask, or if you know anyone into that type of thing...

One of the types I've seen comes in bead form, but I don't do much with high-temp plastic--I have yet to move on from styrene sheets.

Simple, but Professional

I'm not one to particularly care what I wear.
I'm more happy that I have clothes, as opposed to what they look like.

Yet, lately I've developed some kind of urge to look more, "Professional", if you will. I'm trying to mentally make the picture of how to do a whole "Suit and Tie" thing, without actually doing a suit and tie. Why? Because I'm in high school, and while I would like to wear a full suit and tie, I don't feel like spend 200$ on clothes that I will outgrow, and will probably get messed up by one of my classmates.

So. I'm looking for any ideas that are fairly cheap, simple, and yet still look half-professional. (P.S. This means ideas, so please, throw out anything.)

What I am thinking so far is something like this:
Black button-up shirt, dark blue tie, black slacks, and a pair of some kind of black shoes.

It's really basic though, and I'd like to add a bit more style then that. I'm looking for simple, but not that simple.

Sorry!
I hit reply and new topic. (I have two windows open, one with the new topic, one with the reply.)

Anyway.
What I was thinking, is you could make one out aluminium, since that's easy to bend and then paint the aluminium.

Red Joker - your Matrix nurney, use whatever you want to make the pattern - but don't have any undercuts.

Take a plaster mould off it.

Since I don't know your rough location, I'm not sure where you can get this - get some liquid latex.
Some hobbycraft shops sell it for making moulds for candles, chess pieces, candle chess pieces whatever.

Pour it into the mould & let it set - normally about 24 hours.

Talc the top surface - that stops it welding edges to itself, remove from mould & trim with ahrp scissors if necessary.

Paint with acrylic paint silver - brass - black, whatever rocks your boat.

Oh if you thin out some of your liquid latex with some household ammonia, then mix it into your paint, it'll stick better to the casting.

Clean area of skin with astringent, dry, apply glue to your casting (proper name is appliance) as per instructions, whack it on!

Glue? what type? superglue works - but not a good idea, either use Pros - Aid (expensive but excellent - used professionally in the FX industry, only comes off with an alcohol based remover - you get it from the same place).

Or, just use spirit gum, available from most theatrical makeup suppliers, not as good but it is cheaper & will work!

Reason to do it this way, you can make more for others that want one, its flexible & lightweight + good practice if you decide to do other simple makeup appliances.
Hope that this will be of some help to you!

Matrix neck plug

I have a metal Matrix neck plug replica if anyone is interested.

c130 02-14-2007 04:20 PM

Leewit, you're a genius. Thanks for the ideas. :D That could be a lot of fun to make.

SomeDude 02-15-2007 12:59 PM

The neck plug I have came with some sort of tape to apply it with. It came from Reel World Props but is now discontinued. If you're interested in purchasing my metal neck plug, just send me a message.

Would you be able to post a picture of it?
