Darkwave?
Anyone knows of any good darkwave/dark ambient bands?
|
Take your pick: List of darkwave music artists. (The list is probably debatable, but it's a good place to start.)
Off that list, let's see... I recommend - black tape for a blue girl - Claire Voyant - the Cruxshadows - Ego Likeness - Lacrimosa - Razed in Black - Switchblade Symphony - ThouShaltNot |
Clan of Xymox.
I just found out they came to Peru 3 years ago ='), hope they come again in the future. |
When in Hades did Lacrimosa fit into darkwave?O_o
|
I started wondering about that too... Ah well. My recommendations, as a darkwave fan:
Black Tape for a Blue Girl (damn, you beat me to it, Enc) Cocteau Twins Devics (though, this might be indie, I've never been sure about that) Voltaire Miranda Sex Garden London After Midnight (esp. their early stuff) Switchblade Symphony Dead Can Dance As you can see, I'm not too fond of EBM- influences in the music I listen to... As for dark ambient, try Nox Arcana. I'm not really sure about any of the names of the bands I've listened to on dark ambient streams online, but you might get a few tips if you tune into one and notice the bands' names. There's one on shoutcast.com, I believe, it might have been live365.com, but I think it's the former because I can't remember being annoyed by ads... |
Antisisters.
Encaitare, cool, i like CXS and Razed in Black too! |

Ictum, if you're interested in some really beautiful dark ambientish music, check out Dark Sanctuary. |
Dead Can Dance.

Echo and the Bunnymen

Almost none of the bands cited above are really dark wave... most of them are Goth Rock. Clan of Xymox (which is one of my favourite bands) have become more dark wave in their later years. Cocteau Twins is Dream pop, not even Goth per-se (although they're pretty near). Lacrimosa is Goth Rock, too.
A good Dark Wave band that I can recommend is L'ame Immortelle (I recommend their song Teifster Winter). Most Dark Wave bands are german, given that the scene there is pretty huge and that much of Dark Wave has its origins in Industrial. |
Crimson is right, they're not all necessarily strictly "darkwave," but most of them are at least darkwave-ish. I really think of darkwave as a pretty broad category, though I know it can get specific. Anyway my favorite darkwave(ish) bands are:
Dead Can Dance Cocteau Twins This Mortal Coil |
Collide
SIN:DECAY A Man Called Tea Atleast those are some of my favorites. |
Don't forget Covenant and Fictional along with V.A.S.T. - a few of my personal favs.

Ask VampiricYouth...i think he knows muchos...

Blush.
Depends on what Darkwave you're looking for exactly. Dark Wave (two words) was the antithesis of the European synth-pop/New Wave. Bands like Wolfsheim, Beborn Beton and to some extent Depeche Mode characterized the gloomy darker brand of synth pop feel. Diary Of Dreams The Cruxshadows Clan Of Xymox Diorama Project Pitchfork Then in the early nineties, American label Projekt began a mail-order catalogue called Darkwave (one word) that specialized in local, etheral sounding Gothic music that began being referred to as Darkwave in the States or Etheral (Dark Wave) abroad. Black Tape For A Blue Girl Soul Whirling Somewhere Audra Autumn's Grey Solace Steve Roach As Lonely As Dave Bowman etc |
blutengel :)
|
Blutengel could also be classified as Electrogoth, but critics like Mick Mercer argue that Darkwave and Electrogoth are interchangeable...I find bands labeled Electrogoth to be more dance orientated than Darkwave.
|
Blutengel could also be characterized as new school EBM. The new school sucks.
|
Maybe Deine Lakaien. I often hear them refferenced to Darkwave, though they have a very unique sound.

Here are some Darkwave bands
The Crüxshadows Love Spirals Downwards Cocteau Twins Rhea's Obsession Faith & The Muse The Legendary Pink Dots Rozz Williams & Gitane Demone Black Tape For A Blue Girl Miranda Sex Garden Stoa Lustmord Controlled Bleeding Spahn Ranch Lycia Robert Rich/Steve Roach Paralysed Age Suspiria Just don't confuse Industrial for Darkwave. VNV Nation Claire Voyant Razed In Dlack Diary of Dreams Covenant Project Pitchfork Assemblage 23 Funker Vogt Din_Fiv Icon of Coil These groups are considered industrial. |
Haha, Controlled Bleeding and Spahn Ranch aren't Industrial but Icon of Coil and VNV are?
What a wacky world we live in. Anyhoo, I don't know anymore Darkwave than has already been mentioned, so I'll cover what no one seems to know anything about - Dark Ambient. Angel of Decay Desiderii Marginis In Slaughter Natives Premature Ejaculation Karl Sanders (Yes, the frontman of Nile) vidna Obmana aswell as (some) Drudkh, Gorgoroth and Burzum, but they usually make Black Metal. |
Oddly enough, 90% of the industrial groups that I mentioned belong to one label - Metropolis Records.
