Smell of urine.

Gah, I've had it! Every time I go shower at university, the rank stench of stale urine invades my nostrils and pierces my brain like a red hot skewer. It's worse in the shower stalls themslves!

My God! I wanna smack those people who piss in the showers. I mean, the urinals are only a few steps away! How hard can it possibly be to hold it in until you're done showering and just piss in the urinals??? I mean sure, go piss in your house's shower, but my God, have the common courtesy and decency to NOT piss in the showers at school!

MollyMac 03-14-2007 08:40 PM

Urea helps with athelete's feet and other fungus. They are actually keeping the shower cleaner by pissing. A little gratitude, eh?

PersephoneX 03-14-2007 10:21 PM

Take salt with you and sprinkle it in your shower space just before you turn on the tap. Salt is gooood.

Lucretia_my_Reflection 03-15-2007 01:07 AM

Bicarb-soda sprinkle it around the shower, and turn the tap on will get rid of bad oder. That really disgusting of them to do that, or another option is to spray something to cover up the smell just while your showering. Till then fokes don't piss in the shower . ^^

xmorpheus 03-15-2007 02:26 AM

Vicks vapour rub just under the nose kills most smells!

Not to be smart, but is the smell definitely coming from the showers? Could it be from the urinals - or bad drainage?

Valerius 03-15-2007 04:56 AM

I did not know that urea helped with all that. But jeeze, sanitation, people. And yeah, thanks for the advice, I'll take some of that deodorant stuff with me next time.

And yes, it is definitely coming from the shower stalls. The urinals are okay. They may stink a bit, but it gets really bad in the shower stalls.

PersephoneX 03-15-2007 10:52 PM

How can people pee in public???

emeraldlonewoulf 03-15-2007 10:57 PM

Guys have an easier time of it. For them it's just point and shoot, not strip and squat. :)

Valerius 03-16-2007 04:53 AM

Yahuh, those guys. And... it's not public since the showers aren't really open. Each shower head has an individual stall for one occupant. Sooo... you can't really say who pees or not.

MollyMac 03-16-2007 05:27 AM

It's easy to pee in public. Just relaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax

Underwater Ophelia 03-16-2007 02:54 PM

I really like peeing in the woods and stuff. And I love peeing in the shower. It just feels better for some reason.

Delicate_Torture 03-16-2007 03:14 PM

Unless you have a urinary tract infection, urine is sterile. This means that standing in someone else's urine isn't going to be a bad thing. It is actually a good idea when you are using a communal shower to wee on your feet so that you don't pick up tinea or another foot infection from the shower stall... especially if you aren't wearing anything on your feet while you shower.

Then again, girls wee doesn't smell anywhere near as bad as boys wee. So that's easy for me to say.

That's actually a common misconception. It's only sterile inside your body. As soon as it hits the tip of the urethra, i.e., exiting your body, it gets bacteria on it. No matter who you are.

MotherofMercies 03-16-2007 10:14 PM

Men's pee stinks badly.

How hard is to go to the toilet before having a shower?

MollyMac 03-17-2007 09:19 AM

It's not difficult, but many pride themselves in multi-tasking. Be glad it's only urine

:)

Back at the boarding school, we had the SSS rooms, small slower stalls with a toilet to the side, no sink. (That has all changed since my departure, I heard from other alumni)

We called it the "Shit, Shower, and Shave"

Lucretia_my_Reflection 03-18-2007 07:15 PM

Well you're lucky your not the one who has to clean it up i get paid to be a cleaner for a local restront/bar. I stood in some that was on the floor ewwwwww yikes i hate cleaning the toilets.

MollyMac 03-18-2007 07:25 PM

You wuss. well, if you would have peed over the other urine, for a brief moment, it would have all been sterile and happy, like Smurf Village.

This is true.. but seeing as these people were in the shower one would hope that there was soap being applied to genitals and that they were at least clean.

Ophelia, you are a very intelligent and wise woman. I always really enjoy reading your posts, even when you are proving me wrong. I get the feeling that your friends and family are better for having you in their lives.

Aw, thank you so much. That was so sweet of you.
I'd like you to know I wasn't trying to come after you or anything silly like that, but I know people who claim you can clean wounds with urine and stuff and...it gets a little dangerous.

PS--Don't get a urinary tract infection EVER. Pee after you have sex EVERY TIME.

Valerius 03-21-2007 08:06 AM

How would peeing after having sex help with preventing UTI?

Delicate_Torture 03-21-2007 11:20 AM

Women have a relatively short urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) compared to men and therefore often get urinary tract infections easier and more often. Because of the motion of sex bacteria that is just 'hanging around' the area and is perfectly ok when it's on your skin can be pushed to the entrance of the urethra and travel up it to cause an infection.

If you pee after you've had sex, it helps to flush all of that bacteria away from the urethra again. It is a similar reason as to why you should wipe front to back, or why you should never go from anal to vaginal sex without changing a condom.

I think I'll always pee after sex from now on.
Ever been in Paris? It's one big toilet, the city of romance smells like pee. Even if peeing in shower doesn't hurt, it must smell awfull. This could become a real trauma, people always remember bad smells and if you (many years later) go to Paris you'll recall the horror of the showers. I would watch out, beware of the pee.

Exactly. It's super-important for girls, but it helps with guys, too. Just...pee after sex. It's not hard. Actually, it is. Sometimes your body still thinks it's having sex and since your body doesn't want to pee during sex, you have to calm down and relax before you can pee. Still, do it. UTIs suck, and can develop into bladder infections, which are a little trickier to deal with.
