Thrift Stores
Good to shop at them, in my opinion. Anyone else shop in Thrift Shops to get clothes? I think it's easier, obviously, when the clothes are cheaper to do better DIY work. In other fashion aspects, I found a good Victorian Gothic-esque outfit at one thrift store locally.
So, who else? |
I go to thrift stores all the time. The problem I have is I live near a gothic community and because of that all the good stuff is usually picked over. Since the thrift stores know that Victorian and certin Black styles of clothing are really popular they charge outrageous prices for them.

I don't really like thrift stores for clothes because it's hard for me to find stuff that actually fits, but I do like buying old books or little decorations for my apartment.

But like you, I also buy book, decorations, etc. |
I found a really nice rather large greco-roman vase for $8.

I love thrift stores. Hell, I work at one. Hahaha. I have good access to great DIY-able clothes all the time. I'll have to use my break times to search through the clothes racks, though.

I really really love them, i found a few meters of black satin the other day i made a really pretty table cloth out of it ^^.

I've always had amazing luck at finding shoes in thrift stores - somehow everyone with a size 8 in the world decides at some point that they don't want their awesome shoes anymore. I don't have such good luck with clothes which, if I like them, usually won't fit me, but I'll often buy skirts or tops that I can easily alter or rip apart for fabric.

Thrift stores are brilliant! I find awesome diy projects there for like a dollar and my fave thing ever-- 80s clothes, Perfect for the punk look I adore.
|
I <3 thrift stores, more than half the clothes in my wardrobe are from thrift stores. I think I might volunteer in one for my Duke of Edinburgh award. :D

Thrift stores are all well and good, but its hard to find plus size clothes in the gothic style, ya know? I'm a size 16-18average. Its hard to find good goth clothes in those sizes. But, indeed the thrift stores are good for such things. And its a cost effective alternative to buying material for projects you are practicing to make. Get the item that closely resembles the outfit you wish to create and then add, cut, sew, and glue till you get the look. =)

I love thrift stores. I hardly ever buy clothing/ fabrics anywhere else.

I LOVE thrift stores! I used to shop at them all the time. I used to find all sorts of nice clothes and sometimes I would alter them and add my own touch to them. I don't really shop at thrift stores anymore, although recently I started to go to one just down the street because money has been tight and I've been trying to dress more nice lately, I guess because I'm getting old (I just turned 30) and I feel like I should look more lady like. I've always dressed pretty alternative or whatever you wanna call it (I hate labling) but as I'm getting older, I feel like I look funny now dressing the way I did, so now I'm trying to dress trendy and girly looking I guess. =p It's strange because for the first time in many, many, years, I'm buying shirts of color, like blue, and green. I always just buy black because I feel most comfortable in black, but my boyfriend gets mad at me, he says everything I buy is black and that I should buy things in color. I guess I'm molding into what he wants me to be...
Ooops... I'm just babbling now hehe I'll stop now. =p |
I know the feeling wishcat. I am 44. EEP! But I know I can't pull off the outfits I did when I was in my 20's, as much as I would like too, and now I am encorporating the flavor into my everyday wear and work wear. I have a particular fondness for Victorian through the 50's. I mix them all up and get my own style. I may not be trendy but I get a lot of compliments on what I wear. My hairdresser, who is the same age as I, wears EGL.
Who says you can't have color and be molded into something your not? Lovely jewel tones still falls into what you are looking for. Heck keep all the black and just add accesseries in color. Belt, scarf, jewelry, cami under something sheer...the possiblities are endless. |
I love thrift stores. There are several in my area I check regularly for 80's stuff and leather. It is a good time and it is affordable. I do find, however, that I do usually have to do a bit of repair on many of the garments I buy form those places. Still, it's worth it.

I get awesome vests at thrift stores. I'm a total vest whore. =P

I got an awesome felt (I think) jacket for $5.99 yesterday at the local thrift store! I'll post a photo as soon as I have it dry cleaned. It had dog hairs all over it. It will be perfect for the club, and I can sew all kinds of patches on it.

Thrift stores are a lot of fun. I got some of my favorite pairs of shoes at thrift stores and yard sales. I am a yard sale and flea market FIEND.

Thrifting seems fun.. Unfortuanely, as long as I am under the control of the mother, I am not permitted to shop at the thrift store..
Blah. |
I found a lovely, long black skirt with a slit on the side at a thrift store yesterday for only THREE DOLLARS!!! :D

I went to a swap thing today. I got a hip flask :D

I picked up The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes at a thrift store, they are great for saving money on books too!
