Music Recommendations?

I don't listen to much Gothic music but I want to, I'm not sure what to listen to though. I listen to HIM, though I don't think HIM is gothic. I like Within Temptation, Cinema Strange, Bday Massacre and Switchblade Symphony. Everything else I listen to is pretty random, my favorite singer is Monica Naranjo. Does anyone have any music recommendations for me? I like nice melodies and generally high vocals =D thanks

High vocals, eh? Go with the Sex Gang Children, Ausgang, and Theatre of Hate. Also you may like Bauhaus, the Southern Death Cult, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Specimen, and Alien Sex Fiend. Thats not all, but its a strat.

P.S. Cinema Strange is amazing.

Definitely check out Southern Death Cult, UK Decay, and, even though I'll probably get flamed for this, Lacuna Coil does have some good songs which might get you into heavier beauty-and-the-beast styled gothic metal.

Great goth music is definetly at best with SexGang Children and Bauhaus.

I wasn't aware that Lacuna Coil was considered to be any style of gothic music. I've just considered them metal. The lead singer has a lovely voice, perfect range.

All of the bands that I'd recommend have already been recommended to you. So I've nothing to add.

Concrete Blonde.

Johnette Napolitano is not a deity, but she should be.

Rasputina, Cocteau Twins.

For high vocals, do you mean male or female?

For some bands with male tenor singers, there's The Crüxshadows, Clan of Xymox, Virgin Prunes, The Danse Society, The Cure, The Last Dance and This Mortal Coil, Echo And The Bunnymen and The Bolshoi

For female bands with soprano/etc singers: The DreamSide, Inkubus Sukkubus, Faith & The Muse, Ego Likeness, Dead Can Dance (duh), Corpus Delicti, Skeletal Family, The March Violets and Collide

This is, of course, just to name a few off the top of my head.

They may be considered gothic metal, but gothic metal isn't really part of the goth culture. Gothic metal takes it cues from gothic fiction and medieval music; that's where its name comes from. LIkewise, deathrock shares a title with death metal, but they have absolutely nothing in common.

Oh yes, and Virgin Prunes are a gothic rock band you should definitely check out. I can't believe no one else has mentioned them yet.

I'm not sure if this helps but this is a general list of some groups I listen to quite often:

London After Midnight
Bauhaus
Concrete Blonde
Reliquary
The Crüxshadows
The Cure
Shakespeares Sisters
E Nomine (song "Vater Unser" kicks ass!!)
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Lords of the New Church
Type O Negative
The Dreamside

Unless I fall in the wrong category of Gothic music as we all have our tastes in this.

I like both, just as long as they can sing high =D
