Have you tried Dimmu Borgir? They're pretty good, methinks.

Oh, and what is a thread about Metal bands doing on a Goth forum? I'm just curious.

Metabolik 08-16-2007 08:32 AM

Dimmu Borgir you say? I will give them a try thanks...I think there are some similarities between metal and goth music...I mean soem goth bands are metal...I think anyway, please correct me if I am wrong.

Romantic Raven 08-16-2007 08:37 AM

No, actually, goth and metal are two different things. Of course, there are goths who also listen to metal (myself included), but the goth subculture gravitates around genres such as Gothic Rock, Deathrock, Darkwave, Dark Cabaret, Industrial etc.

Metabolik 08-16-2007 08:42 AM

I see...well thank you for correcting me...I tend to get these things wrong (my IQ isn't very high you see...or is that my self esteem? :()

Romantic Raven 08-16-2007 08:48 AM

Well, people often mistake Goth for Metal. It has nothing to do with IQ, it's simply lack of info. Anyway, it's a good thing that you're still interested in the subculture even after you've found out it isn't what you expected. :)

Metabolik 08-16-2007 08:50 AM

Yay. Now I can tell my friends that they are FINALLY wrong about something. I hate it when people give me bad info. But now I know :)

If you need any help telling your friends how wrong they are about this, I'm sure you can find plenty of people here who would be willing to give you some exact phrases to use. :-D

Metabolik 08-16-2007 09:16 AM

Phrases would be nice. You can never know to many phrases :D

I may have to try to find this forum's obscenity policies before I do that.

Metabolik 08-16-2007 09:31 AM

lmao... (god damn 'message to fucking short' thing)

emma o 08-16-2007 10:42 AM

How about Immortal (norwegian black metal) or Vader (great band from poland, I think if you like Behemoth, you might like Vader also)? Check them out and tell me how you like them :)

emma o 08-16-2007 10:43 AM

Oh, and Emperor of course!

Metabolik 08-16-2007 10:44 AM

Fuck them. They just like their little branch terms for music.

I like to pile music into two categories. Good and bad.

Tha Duckman 08-18-2007 06:01 AM

Oh yeah, and check out The Berzerker.

Aaroneet 08-18-2007 06:33 AM

Damn...where's my brother when I need him?
Anyway, as mainstream as my recommendations are, try Mastodon if you like Trivium and Shadows Fall. They're sort of a mix of different genres, and their music contains some elements of stoner metal. If you head in the stoner direction and you're not afraid to try something slightly different, try Kyuss. If you're looking for metal in genral with "content and initiative", try Paths of Posession, something of an offshoot band that features the vocalist from Cannibal Corpse. If you don't mind nu-metal with political themes, try listening to System Of A Down. Continuing with the mainstream-with-political initiative theme, if you're not afraid to listen to rock with rap overtones, listen to Rage Against the Machine and Faith No More. If you want to get really political and want strong rap overtones, there's Con$olidated, although, again, take note of the strong rap overtones.

If you want to get into bands like Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, and Children of Bodom, try Nightwish. It lands slightly in Gothic metal territory; if that genre is your forte, continue on with Lacuna Coil, although I'm jumping the gun a bit.

Metabolik 08-18-2007 07:40 AM

Wow, thanks. Lots of bands for me to add to my list now :D

Miss_Nobody 09-21-2007 07:16 PM

Jack Off Jill, Bread and Water, Kittie, Blood Loss (my friend's 2 cousins are in the band), and Die Warzau.

Metabolik 09-22-2007 10:39 AM

Wow, both at the bump and the fact that you know people in a band sweet! I appreciate the bump by the way. But I need more bands like DevilDriver now...can't get enough of them *drools*

Necropolis 09-22-2007 10:49 AM

Metabolik, there is a good thread about metal a few down from this one that you should read.

Metabolik 09-22-2007 10:50 AM
