You forgot Finch, luvie. And I don't think Jimmy Eat World counts as emotive hardcore.

What brought this on?

Renatus 12-03-2007 02:29 PM

That very well might be actual emo music but the poseurfad emos you see today are very different from their predecessors. Real emo really died back in the 90s assimilated by the mainstream for a new music genre to sell to teens. All in their effort to make sure to be able to force teens into a new trend so they can't save money through hand me downs.

KontanKarite 12-03-2007 02:46 PM

I can't be bothered to care enough, except to tell you guys that I don't care. :p

badteccy 12-03-2007 03:51 PM

Who cares?

Graveyard.Crow 12-03-2007 04:41 PM

I do. I actually like emotive hardcore.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 12-03-2007 04:59 PM

I like most of the bands on that list.

And June would not count as emo.

Graveyard.Crow 12-03-2007 05:01 PM

I didn't know Hawthorn Heights did either

Crying_Crimson_Tears 12-03-2007 05:07 PM

Wait, Hawthorne Heights is emo.

Speaking of which, their bassist died over the weekend.

Graveyard.Crow 12-03-2007 05:13 PM

I didn't know, I didn't say they weren't.
Didn't he die a long time ago, or was that another person?

Not long considering it was already done for him on wikipedia.

Stormtrooper of Death 12-03-2007 07:31 PM

Emo is bollocks! Especially when most kids nowadays just think its a fashion and when they think its punk! Now that makes me blow my stack!

Wormboy 12-03-2007 07:35 PM

Jimmy Eat World is new wave emo. Yeah, I love finch, I should have remembered them. This was brought on by those stupid GOTH VS EMO threads and people calling My Chemical Romance emo. Not emo, just alternrock.

spoon! 12-03-2007 07:43 PM

Hmm, didn't know Dag Nasty was considered emo.

I've often heard Weezer put into the same list, but I never really hear it in their music (maybe on "Pinkerton" and "Make Believe")

MollyMac 12-03-2007 08:37 PM

it... doesn't... fucking... matter...

like what you like. if a label or catch or wiki entry influences whethe ror not you like something, you are weak minded and deserve pigeonholed shitty music.

TopHaggardDoll 12-04-2007 03:59 AM

My boyfriend loves Texas Is The Reason.

Well, this is was nice and informative.

Underwater Ophelia 12-04-2007 09:44 AM

Wait. Why did you make this list?
I still don't really get why you made this.

Delkaetre 12-04-2007 09:49 AM

Goth music has evolved over time, the sounds of it changing dramatically and allowing for new interpretations (Goth music in the eighties certainly didn't sound anything like the Cruxshadows or Rome Burns!). It's not inconceivable that emo could have done the same, evolved from its original roots into something rather different.
Example- Compare Screaming Banshee Aircrew with Depeche Mode. Compare Rome Burns with Siouxie. Compare Cruxshadows with the Damned. All rather different, though I'll grant you that the Damned (who are only sketchily goth to begin with) have a decent bit in common with SBA.

Tam Li Hua 12-04-2007 01:46 PM

Honestly...I could care less about the Emo vs. Goth thing now.

I just listen to music I like. Half the time [unless it's painfully obvious, like the difference between rap, and country, and classical], I couldn't tell you -what- genre a certain musical type would fit into.

Also, there was a lot of music I liked before I was even aware of Goth music per se, and I -still- really like it. :) [Please don't throw me out of the super-secret club of Gothicdom! :O ]

Rorschach Twin 12-04-2007 03:10 PM

Thank the gods they didn't put Coheed and Cambria on there.

Sure, music genres evolve, but I wouldn't call taking a type of music that sounds like something that already exists and slapping a different label on it "Evolution."

Wormboy 12-04-2007 07:19 PM

It doesn't influence me in the slightest, I just hate how people use the term emo in general. People hate "emo" kids so much, and apply such negative stereotypes to them, and some go as far as attacking them for being "emo". Sounds a lot like "Goth" right around the columbine massacre doesn't it?

Opteron_Man 12-09-2007 06:24 PM

i am so sick of hearing about emo!
if i had a dime for every thread that defines goths from emos, i'd be filthy rich.
