Suicide

Did anyone hear about that girl that committed suicide over this boy she met on MySpace? It tuned out that the "boy" that she was chatting with was actrually a woman that lived in the neighborhood. Crazy. I heard about that on CNN.

Oh yeah she bullied her over the internet. I am quite curious to see how she will be charged. Which brings up the interesting topic of Law and Order: MVU (Myspace victims unit). What is the future of the internet?

Is this the same story I'm thinking of,

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21844203/ ?

From what is stated in the story, no charges were filed.

I think it's sad and disgusting that an adult would resort to that type of juvenile behavior. I guess, whatever trips their trigger and makes them feel better about themselves as adults.

Ahh.. What some people will resort to when hiding behind a monitor.

To apply law to a realm that is limited only by that of the human imagination will be difficult. Also I don't think in the real world there are laws against aggrevating a person to suicide through bullying. We could always stand in front of her house and stare at her untill she goes crazy and does somthing to repent, but other than that I doubt it.

I keep waiting for the parents to go postal on the family, they still live four houses from eachother.

At what point do you decide to pick up the chainsaw and hatchet and dice-up the neighbors?

As of today the state decided not to press charges.

Personally, I don't think a criminal act was committed, however, the family could still sue for damages and should be monetarily compensated, IMHO.

If it was in the UK, such cyber stalking would count as harrassment, which would allow for prosecution. Harrassment to the physical or mental detriment of an individual is most definitely illegal, and carries fines and even possible jail sentences.
Ah, the things I remember from last year's criminal law course...

What about a wrongful death suit by the parents? Worked on OJ...

This...I just don't understand people resorting to such meanness. Why tell the girl that she should kill herself? It's just absolutely ridiculous.

Then again, I don't feel that the girl's parents were really doing all they could; I mean, she -was- underage while she was on there. I would think parents would be a -lot- more apprehensive about letting their kids on there these days than they are..

Personally, I've never noticed that adults are more "mature" than kids. They're just more subtle.

Regrettably, I have to agree that no criminal act occured.

I agree. Nothing criminal took place. But GEEZ! That woman is a such a bitch. How lame is her life that she has to get her rocks off by picking on children.

TopHaggardDoll 12-04-2007 11:08 PM

Eurgh! It disgusts me. What a vile woman, noone deserves to go through that....I can't believe she got away with it either.
