Gothic Christmas

Snow is falling outside, piling in drifts along the streets and the houses.
Inside the house is dark, candles flicker in the corners to give a little light.
It's cold and dreary, and there I am sitting, alone, but strangely happy.

The house itself has fallen into disrepair,
I simply gave up after a while, keeping it up was too much to bear.
I don't think it will matter now, perhaps the next person can fix it.

I hear a small noise from the back of the house, a creak or maybe a groan,
the noises in an old house can take on a sort of life,
I don't really mind them anymore, not like I used to.

Outside I see the moon rising slowly in the sky,
Shedding it's light down through a break in a thick cloud cover.
The lifeless trees outside stand stark against the snow, black and skeletal.

Inside my tree matches them twig for twig,
It stands lifeless and unlit in the corner, almost blending into the shadows.
Underneath lies only dust and a few stray needles that hung on.

At the top of the tree is a single ornament,
I bought it years ago, it is a simple figure really.
An interesting figure, half angel, half demon, strangely beautiful in the twilight.

I sit in my soft leather chair, sipping mulled wine.
In a few minutes it will be midnight and the end will be here.
I have watched it grow closer all night, and alas it is finally near.

After years of solitude I will be with the one I love once again.
She will return to me tonight as I cross to the other side, into oblivion.
I close my eyes and listen as the clock strikes midnight, it is done.

how about a black christmas tree?

jestercel85 12-11-2007 08:47 PM

What about one? I was actually gonna do that for my room this year but ran out of time, little late in the month for it now lol.

This is quite time consuming, but me and my friend replaced the regular Christmas Light colors with Purple.

It has a bit of a dark touch to it.

You know, you can buy purple lights at Target. Anyway, I think all-red lights on a tree would be more sinister looking, along with the cotton stuff you stretch out to look like cobwebs for Halloween.

Spooooooky!!!!!

jestercel85 12-12-2007 12:14 PM

That was my plan might do it next year.

Delkaetre 12-12-2007 12:35 PM

If I'd had cash this year, I'd have got one of Tesco's black artificial trees and a few strings of their blue and white snowflake lights. Everything would be dark, with cold lights glinting in the bristling depths.
We don't need many more lights, though- the games consoles we have all have their own little blinky lights.
On topic- I quite like the ending of that piece. There's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on.

Thank you Delkaetre, I was beginning to think no one liked it, no one ever said a word about it after we started talking about the trees lol.

Yes, I know. I didn't like the tone of color those had though.

amazing... amazing... I just liked it...

jestercel85 12-13-2007 02:00 PM

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I am sure it is not one of my best but I don't really do them to be good, I do them to get something I want to say out there lol. Another form of self expression, like the dark colors, gel bracelets, and neon blue eyeshadow I wear when I go cybergoth.

I loved it. I'm definitely no poet, I'm more of an artsy drawing type, lol. I love reading it though.

jestercel85 12-13-2007 05:18 PM

I wish I could draw, it is one thing I have always wished I could do, but alas I have never been able to draw much of anything. A few things here and there. The only thing I have ever really been proud of was a picture I did in art class, it was surreal art week lol. I drew a picture of a planet with a HUGE humpback whale coming up out of a volcano, almost like the whale was erupting from the planet and making the volcano as it did. In the background was a sea turtle flying through space carrying a net in it's beak. Inside the net was a star and orbiting outside of that was it's system of planets. The whole thing sucked when I was done because the teacher made us use oil pastels which blow. Had it been in colored pencil or pain or even chalk, it would have been fantastic.

Gothic Piano 12-14-2007 10:53 AM

How about like a dead looking black or gray tree? Have it be nothig but twigs sort of. Then add ornitmits.:D

jestercel85 12-14-2007 05:06 PM

I am actually gonna try that next year. The whole dead tree thing.

Gothic Piano 12-16-2007 11:05 AM

LOL! I think it's funny how we don't relize that we iether have a dead tree in our living room or a faux tree, and don't even relize it. It's like something my grandma told me. We have a realy wierd holliday anyway. We are full of joy and cheer when sitting under a dead tree opening gifts. It's actrualy quite rediculouse!
