They all deserve to die--tell you why, Mrs. Lovett, tell you why!
So yes, I've just returned from the movies. I saw Tim Burton's rendition of Sweeney Todd, and my I was pleased! Johnny Depp sang wonderfully; and he played the part of Sweeney with utmost precision. He was completely insane, just as it should be. And I surprisingly loved Helena Bonham Carter in the role of Mrs. Lovett as well.
Anyway, it wasn't too far off from the original story, so that made me especially happy. It also had parts of subtle but noticeable humor, as expected from a Tim Burton film. And when Mrs. Lovett (Helena) sang "The Worst Pies in London", I giggled through the entire part; she put so much (or if it wasn't her singing, her fill-in did) feeling into her performance, both with movement and expression, and down to the very tone of her voice. All the scores, while I'm talking about the singing, were fantastic. And with Tim Burton's quirkiness, everything in Todd's twisted London world was brought to life with the highest degree of expertise. The backdrops were great, the costumes, generally everything that dealt with the setting was on the ball. So I was curious if anyone else saw this movie and enjoyed it? As you can tell from this post, you can certainly see I did, and I recommend it to all Sweeney Todd fans. |

I'll have to go the next time I have some cash. I read about the actual Sweeney Todd, though, and it was pretty raw stuff. Depp is one of my favorite actors, too. It's like they made it for me. ^_^ |
Bonam Carter did her own singing, actually.
I was totally shocked to see the overwhelmingly favorable reviews this has recieved. With a bunch of almost randomly selected, untrained singers performing one of the most challenging musicals ever written, that it's apparently all come together is remarkable. |
I plan on seeing it tomorrow.

Oh I want to see it so bad I just adore Alan Rickman. We don't have a theater here so I guess I will wait until it comes from Netflix.

I'm a huge Sweeney Todd (the musical) fan, and I was pleasantly surprised by this film adaptation. One complaint I had is that Toby is portrayed much younger than he actually is. Other than that I loved it, and in fact, would like to see it again.

It was certainly exceptional!
I loved the production design and felt it really captured what was started with Corpse Bride and really took it to the next level. I think Tim Burton should look at doing a version of Wuthering Heights. |

yeah, I sure did. Oh well, it deserves two. I thought the movie was incredibly well done, and it was a big step forward for Tim Burton. I loved the music, and in comparison to a recording of the original that I have, I think it's just as good, just a little more polished (I mean.. what do you expect..) The only thing that I can find to complain about is that there wasn't any of Burton's signature quirky humor. I mean, don't get me wrong, it was downright funny at times, but it was just not as 'quirky' as I expected it would be. But now that I'm talking about it, I really want to see it again. |
