Favorite childrens' books?
 

What were/are yours? I took a children's literature class a few years ago, and I must say, there are some great books out there now-a-days for the young ones.

My favorite from when I was a little girl is the "7 Chinese Brothers", specifically, the version with the "pop-out" features.

My favorite which has came out somewhat recently is a novel called "Kira Kira". It's definately for the 9-11 crowd, but I really do recommend that you read it...

Lewis Carroll's Alice through the looking glass. I've never stopped loving it.

Roald Dahl fucking pwns. I can still read that shit now and from an older person's perspective, marvel that people give those books to their kids. That's some twisted shit.

I always loved the Magic Faraway tree , Watership Down, Willowbank, The Silver tide, And Grimms Fairytales.

Roald Dahl was my God. I actually memorized the first three pages of Matilda, and I LOVED The Witches, The BFG, James And The Giant Peach.
I loved Cold Sassy Tree and a Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
I loved Where The Wild Things Are.
I loved Bunnicula.
I loved all the Ramona Quimby books.
I loved Don't Make Me Smile and Skinnybones.
I regretfully collected every Sabrina The Teenage Witch book up to 34.
I love Harry Potter.
I loved To Kill A Mockingbird.
I loved Cyrano de Bergerac, but I guess that's not a kid book.
I loved A Light In The Attic and Where The Sidewalk Ends.
I loved The Outsiders.

Where The Wild Things Are. My girlfriend gave me a copy for Christmas.

Oh shit, James and the Giant Peach, and Where the Sidewalk Ends! Niiice...I had this wierd book of Scary Stories written by Roald Dahl when I was a kid, and there was one where a girl had a ribbon around her neck, and this boy falls in love with her, and even though she warned him not to, he takes the ribbon off, and her head slips off her shoulders...scared the hell out of me back then.
I would add the Little Prince and this book called Uncle Fedya, His Dog, and His Cat by Eduard Uspenski. If you've read that last one, you're pretty much my best friend for life.

When I was very young, I loved Little Bear by Else Minarik, and the Bunnykins series by Beatrix Potter.

I had all the Dr. Seuss books, Watership Down (still read it today), The Last Unicorn, The Horse and His Boy, and a lost of unicorn/horse/dream land books.. I was so imaginative when I was young.. I really miss that..

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

If You Give a Moose a Muffin was another good one in that series. And my mom always used to read me The Gashlycrumb Tinies. The Roald Dahl books were fun, but my dad and I read the Wizard of Earthsea series and Lord of the Rings as bedtime stories. And the Mr.Potter books about a crazy tea-loving old man who lived with this orange tabby cat.

The Lonely Doll by Dare Wright is my favorite children's book. It's rather dark and disturbing in tone :)

OMG - my first thought was the Earthsea trilogy. I've just bought it for my eight year old daughter, because I want her to have a taste of a good book, not just have her obsessing about bloody Hannah Montana! *sigh*

I loved Stellaluna, Was that book popular?

Leroy the Lobster was awesome too... but I dont know if anyones even heard of that one.

The Fat Cat series, though I can't recall the author. My favourite was Fat Cat on Wheels.

Carbonel, by Barbara Sleigh.
The Chronicles of Narnia, by CS Lewis. I read these books four times each in the four years of primary school, rather than read any of those ghastly Goosebumps books or Choose-Your-Own-Adventures.
