You know, a lot of people here have commented on proper sterilization as being one (very, very good) reason not to pierce yourself. Not all infections can be cured by using antibiotics. I know someone who almost died because of an improperly done nipple piercing. The infection spread into her milk ducts. Will that happen every time a piercing is done improperly, no, but it's a chance I'm not willing to take.

The second very good reason is the risk of personal damage. Improper piercing techniques can cause permanent nerve damage.

I'm all for body piercing, but I am also all for having it all professionally done to minimize my risk of any type of permanent damage.
