Not directly told, no. More like manipulated to willingly choose a uniform of sorts. And they gladly accept it, even if they rebelled against school uniforms.
Give people an illusion of a choice (even "either you wear this or you don't belong to our group" choice), and if you do that with enough skill, people will willingly accept whatever you want them to accept. Including wearing a sort of uniform after they stated they hate uniforms.
