In this case, it all comes back to what I said:
That not all smart people are goth, but all goths are smart people.
Maybe it's just me, that appreciates intellect above most other values, but, being not only fashion and musical culture, but also a literary one, I see the logic in that literate creatures are intellectual by definition.
