Being goth doesn't mean that some of us also don't shop 'in the big old lifestyle store' as you put it. Just as bondage pants and grumpiness do not a gothic maketh, neither are all goths the same. Not only are their different types of goth sub-sets within the whole goth sub-culture, there are different PEOPLE within those sub-sets. And that is the crux of the matter. All of these 'goths' you are talking about (and to) are actually all different PEOPLE. And because of this we are, in a way (and as embarrased as I might be to admit it) like you. It is true, Goths are people too.

I think that the problem with having 'wannabees' around is that they come up with shit like "goth is mostly music and sex." I don't mind spending time with 'wannabees' if they are polite and accepting of me AS A PERSON. I can't abide the 'wannabees' who assume to know me because I am goth and therefore am nothing more than the sum of my black clothes and taste in music. It is like assuming that an African American is 'a gangsta from da 'hood' just because they are black.
