There is no problem with it save for when people deny it for what it really is. If you didn't have your sets of aesthetics, intellect, even your own vernacular- how would you set your subculture (? preferred term?) apart from the others?

If you had no general stereotypes, cliches, accepted reading list and etiquette, how would I tell you apart from the theater kids or the gangsta rappers?

Again, not being facetious or anything. And I have no problem with the reiteration of said guidelines, it is a necessary thing for those who are new or merely curious....

There used to be a thread here called "Goth with a Sledgehammer", a few years back, and we would re-direct all of this line of conversation to said thread to avoid thread-jacking and turning the board into one big crowd of darkly dressed Heathers.
