Because he's a
rock star. No major pop music act is just about the music. It's also about the image, the ideas, and the persona... MTV soundly thrashed any ugly peoples' chance of becoming serioulsy famous. Likewise, most bands in the 80s through mid 90s had official fan clubs people could subscribe to, and have stuff sent to them. Then, the internet became popular, and message boards were created. But, if it was just about the music, you'd listen to it, and not come on here, placing his logo as your avatar, and defending him
ad hominem, ad nauseum.
It's the same in the goth subculture. How many guys haven't had hair like Robert Smith at some point or another? (getting less comon these days I'll admit, but work with me) We have our own stars and icons we follow around, and Mr. Manson isn't one of them.
