Scientists think that the body has a button that paralyzes the body when you sleep so that you don't move around IRL. Problem with 'Terrors' is you awake from the dream, but the 'button' hasn't been shut off just yet.
So you lay there, unable to move.

Al, I used to have the same thing happenm to me quite frequently. I think it also has something to do with how much stress you have too. When I was having my 'episodes' I was in an abusive relationship. Also, I would see a dark specter out of the corner of my eye. Not so much like how death is portrayed,as a skeleton, but just a blurry figure in a brown robe. I used to avoid sleep whenever possible to avoid those attacks.
*shudders*
Also, I can hear myself talk in my sleep.
