I'm thinking 'Gattaca' - the 1997 remake with Ethan Hawke and Jude Law. It's a futuristic sci-fi but has a very 1940's feel to it - don't know if that counts here?
I saw that Marie Antoinette film but didn't really appreciate the modern music. The idea could work but I don't think they pulled it off properly. It seemed a bit slapdash, really. I think 'A knight's tale' on the other hand is a very well-balanced blend of Medieval and Modern themes.
