I personally believe that hardcore should be seperate from hardcore punk as a genre that covers bands that aren't metal enough to be metalcore. Hardcore is just short for hardcore punk, dude, though a good amount of the stuff that gets called hardcore nowadays is actually post-hardcore, which occassionally features lame stuff like melody.
