It's wise to learn other musicians in the beginning, to experiment with various styles and techniques. Once you've gotten the hang of it, you can start developing your own.
For beginners, I strongly recommend Mark Tremonti to master hammer-ons and pull-offs...along with solos. Then there is of course, Kurt Cobain...to master annoying bar cords at first.
