The "potential" line is even worse than the pain line or conciousness line. It's a less concrete distinction, with less intuitive importance. Worse yet, it sweeps the duty of definition under a rug - the potential has to be potential for "human" life. That's begging the question.
I can sympathize with your desire to react to the difficulty of drawing a line by drawing it on the safe side rather than pushing the moral envelope, but you're still just drawing a line based on an arbitrary distinction.
