SophieA touching event coming up in support of the S.O.P.H.I.E campaign will be the Gods Of Ink charity “Goth” day in memory of Sophie Lancaster. This will be held at the Gods Of Ink Tattoo studio in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport on May 17.
The organisers said that it will be a day to remember: “Piercing and tattoos played a big part in Sophie’s life which is why we are holding a charity ‘Goth’ day at our tattoo and piercing studio in Cheadle Hulme.” The event will begin from 12 noon until 10pm and will feature an acoustic set from Dear Superstar and there will of course be plenty of opportunities to “get inked.” In fact it is heavily encouraged, Gods Of Ink added: “We are going to donate £5 from every tattoo and £2 from every piercing that is done on the day to the S.O.P.H.I.E fund, we will give discounts to anyone who comes that are wearing the charity wristbands, these will be available shortly from the studio and also on the day, the are £1 each and all proceeds will go to the S.O.P.H.I.E fund.”
Ten punk and metal bands played at a concert in late 2007 for the first memorial gig in honour of Sophie, the girl who was attacked and beaten to death in August of the same year and this has inspired a whole host of tributes.
The November event was a homage to Sophie, who would have been 21 this year, she died two weeks after suffering serious injuries in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, along with boyfriend Robert Maltby who is still alive and can recall nothing of the incident.
Money raised from this and other events that have been organised will go to the S.O.P.H.I.E (Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere) campaign which has been launched by friends and family of the former student. Police have said they believed Sophie and Robert may have been targeted because they were wearing alternative or Gothic clothing.More gigs in Sophie’s honour have been organised this year, with charity events spanning the country. In Whitby, there will be a memorial bench dedication at the town’s Gothic Weekend on April 25th in North Yorkshire. Sophie and her boyfriend had enjoyed attending the festival.
Alongside the music at the Goth day in May, there will also be a charity raffle. The organisers are currently taking advance bookings for tattoos and piercing on the day.For more information call Lisa on 0751 4601423
