I've got a copy of that book. Admittedly they are a bit messed up, but I think that gives them an original touch. Also in all fairness even the title of the book ("The melancholy death of oysterboy & other stories) suggests that it isn't really a kiddie book and that it's going to be slightly wrong.
I think saying it's "hateful, only offering further mental abuse" is a bit harsh, it's meerly poems about people who don't fit in with society for one reason or another (even if the reasons are far-fetched). Personally, I think Catch and Tea & Cake are taking way too seriously what I see as a bit of light hearted reading.
