Poem for School

OK, so I wrote this poem for school, but I'm not sure if it measures up to all the other fantastic poetry out there, and if it has enough imagery and creativity to get me a full score.

We traveled the seven seas,
In search for the elixir,
With which we are to quench,
Our thirst for grandeur.

We drink in the green poison of the cities
And fall countless numbers of times
Off their monuments of commerce
Into rivers of emotionless machines.

We dream of scintillating summer,
In the middle of merciless winter,
But yearn for summer’s brightness,
When suffering in winter’s wrath.

We of spending our lives,
In gardens of Eden,
But pine for our humble caves,
When the apples on our tree are gone.

After all,
The grass seems emerald green,
On the other side of the fence,
Until you climb over it.
