Apathy's_Child, you've got the *hugs* and so does your girl. Tell her to 'hang in there.' Adult-onset diabetes type 2 does not mean instant dialysis. (My dad has that and his kidneys are fine). What it does mean is that she will have to take good care of herself. If it is possible it may even be 'diet-controlled' type 2, in which case she will not even need insulin. Find out all you can about it before you 'give up the ship', then handle it as it comes. However, she's got a great and understanding mate, and that is a good head start. Good luck.
