A friend of mine posted this on facebook and we started comparing results. Asking deadman about his actual political opinions made me think of posting this here.
The political compass test has two dimensions rather than one, one being economic, while the other being social. Of course it's not gonna actually say what you exactly are, but it gives it more justice than most other generalizations.
For example, the BNP and Hitler are generally called fascist and therefore right-wing, but as a socialist myself I still know that a lot of their ideas are actually left, having numerous platforms on healthcare and education. The thing is, of course, that these policies are exclusively for a certain ethnicity, which makes them authoritarian as fuck. That's what makes them fascist.
With two parameters, there's no fight in for example saying whether Stalin is a good example of the Ultraleft, or the Trotskyist accusation that he was really right wing: instead, he's definitely Left, but more authoritarian than Hitler himself.
Nelson Mandela was on a communist party, but his ideas put him on the libertarian left, while most of America's and even Europe's mainstream parties, politicians, and overall sociopolitical status quo only fall into the authoritarian right (Sweden bein good only in that it almost falls in the dead center of the compass)

Do take the test. Don't take it to heart but obviously assume that the analysis is based on your answers to social questions.
