The fact that they remain popular disproves you opinion. Ratings don't lie. You may say people don't like the psychos ... but they sure do like watching the psychos behaving badly.

You confuse working class with poor. In this country, middle class and working class would be considered wealthy by standards in other parts of the world. I'm working class and I have a playstation 3, a 47 inch Hi-Def LCD TV, and many luxuries. I have problems but most of those come from being out of work. Most people in the middle and sub-middle (working class) see themselves as having a lot, and that is how the anti-tax, anti-big-government message takes hold. They don't think it's easy to get by, but they don't see themselves as poor. A recent opinion poll showed that even people who pay no taxes (they get ALL of their withholdings back) and get refunds (due to Federal credit programs) from the Federal income tax each year are against income taxes. In other words, people who turn a profit on Federal taxes are against Federal taxes!

That's a part of it. She has some charisma that doesn't work on you if you disagree with her basic views. She was also a beauty pageant contestant once, so she's considered a hottie by some (at least as far as politicians go.) And it's really not that much about the racism. That only came up recently (thanks Arizona) and she already had a huge following before that ever appeared on anyone's radar.

*sigh* I was really happy when Obama got in, for the fact that it made me have hope for America at large, I hate to say it but I was really surprised that a black man won the election, and also I was happy that Palin would never see the White House and we could all just forget about her. No dice, huh?

On the other hand, she's very popular with the crazy crowd, but do the majority of Americans like her?
Actually, many more than you would suspect. In the 2008 presidential election, she and John McCain got 59,934,814 popular votes. (By comparison, President Obama and Vice President Biden got 69,456,897 popular votes.) On her own, separated from the incredibly grumpy McCain, her popularity has not waned ... in fact, many political observers have speculated that it (and her influence) have grown.

Just because you dislike someone and don't agree with their policies and behavior does not mean it is wise to underestimate their strengths and their tactics when it comes time for the battle. She could win an election, and it's talk like yours which could enable such an outcome.

I'll just say what's been said before in this thread. If you go after her with personal attacks, you won't sway anyone who hasn't already been swayed. You have to debate her politics if you want to convert the hypnotized masses.
