I assume they put the name in stars because Gothic.net doesn't want to come up on google searches when someone types in that word. Much is the same with p - e-d.o philia, lo-lita (which makes it hard to discuss Nabokov's most famous work) and things of that nature.
As for Slipknot, I think they get undeserved ire. They're a rather talented metal band that does, on occasion, blend in some hip hop elements through sampling and scratching. They may not be to your liking, and that's fine, but saying they are bad musicians is a bit much.
Their fans are assholes of the highest order, that I'll grant you.
