Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Quintessential Darkwave

What do you think? The ultimate darkwave playlist. I don't listen to very much darkwave, but I'd have to include Charlotte Sometimes--The Cure; Embrace The Silence--Depeche Mode; Tainted Love--Soft Cell; and some damn Hall & Oates. Anyone? Some Help?

You're on a gothic forum, and you don't know what darkwave is?

I fucking hate goth, and I know what darkwave is...

Beyond the aforementioned, I would recommend the following.

Stilllife (Russian), Deine Lakaien (Ger), and Diorama (Ger). Beyond that theres Otto Dix from Russia which is very operatic/electronic and more dancey music such as Blutengel/London after midnight.

My computer is still broken so I can't check my library and pick a particular song, but just want to throw in Clan Of Xymox.

First of all, Darkwave is a word coined to describe Depeche Mode. Dark Wave, on the other hand, is considered to be the darker and more melancholy post-punk and new wave bands. It eventually went in an electronic, dance direction, i.e. Switchblade Symphony. Soft Cell is considered dark wave(but I'm going to call it darkwave because I know the freaking difference). Yes, I know about the obscure stuff too... I like Ikon, Danse Society, etc. But, that doesn't make the poppish-boy-band stuff bad. Not the 80's stuff, anyway. I like The Cure. I love DM. Sadly, I've actually never listened to Clan Of Xymox(please don't kill me-- send free mp3's)
