Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Some rubbish about successful bands being less 'trve' then others. Most people who are really into the genre don't give a damn about it though.

They're worth a listen, it's kinda like folk music, with a touch of Bathory, with accordions.

Never really listen to Black metal, though lately I have the urge to listen more of the genre.
I do think Axamenta was rather dashing. Any more good bands to listen to?

Axamenta is more melodic death, though the vocals are kind of blackish I guess. If you want a few bands to start on, I'd suggest checking out the bands mentioned earlier in the thread.

Not to get involved in your argument, but if you don't know about something it's best not to talk about it (Unless asking the difference, which you didn't)

I did not ask the difference, no. Neither did I state that I cared.
My involvement in this was simply in response to the original poster as I do in fact own one of the albums he asked about.
Therefore, despite not knowing the difference between Black Metal and Death Metal, I was in my right to partake in the thread.

Agreed on both counts.
Gotherfall's vocalist has a great little bag of voices he uses. It keep things interesting. It's a tragedy they broke up. I bought their cd, sent by one of their girlfriends. I also talked to a few of the members about why they broke up and all. They're very pleasant people, and rather disarming, unlike Gaahl, whom I respect as an artist greatly yet still am somewhat scared of.
On a Related note, Carving A Giant is fucking EPIC. I've never heard such an amazing guitar line by Gorgoroth.

You could also check out some older Graveworm, perhaps some Rotting Christ.
They're not really black metal, but Therion is rather awesome as well, as are Tristania and Amberian Dawn.
If you want to try some folk metal, there's always Tyr, or Korpiklaani... Tyr may be considered more Viking metal... ooh as far as Viking metal I do recomend Amonamarath or however the hell you spell it.
BTW Dimmu is AWESOME... they sell albums because they are good at playing black metal and getting the whole... "religion sucks" message out there.

Ok, well, Graveworm and Rotting Christ are ok.
Amon Amarth is melodic death, btw. And Dimmu still sucks.

Goatwhore aren't black metal.
Also, the "religion sucks" message of black metal is one of the worst things about it.

Oookey... I'm certainly not going to challenge your vast intellect as to what genre/ sub genre a metal band fits into...
And Dimmu doesn't suck.. They kick ass. Each of their songs is different from the other, and as each album comes out thier sound and presentation of their ideas improves. If that doesn't make for a great metal band, I don't know what does.
I understand if you don't like their sound, however in my own humble opinion that says more about you than the band.

Your humble opinion is wrong. Dimmu Borgir is what Blink 182 is to punk, ok? They're almost as sold out as Cradle of Filth. What an embarrassment...

LOL, silly person. Every band who ever sells their music is a sellout.. you're just pissy cause there happen to be a lot of people who like them.
Are they not obscure enough for you? Its ok.. we don't all have to be snobby about music just because it has a broader following than we think it should. *wicked grin*

Not... really.. Blink 182 doesn't even *sound* punk. At least Dimmu Borgir has the right sound. I don't care if a band 'sold out' or whatever. I listen to what sounds good. For example, if Miley Cirus put out a song that I thought sounded great, I would listen to it, regardless of the fact that she is Disney's whore.
And you really can't deny that In Sorte Diaboli was a great album.

It really wasn't. Even beyond the fact that they're whores, their music is bland and repetitive. They're nothing new. Their fans are just a bunch of people who really haven't listened to black metal, so they hear Dimmu and think "holy shit these guys are awesome!", but if they'd look around at other bands, they'd realize how unimpressive Dimmu is.
