Shill Post your website announcements here. Anything that is blatantly SPAM (nigerian schemes, make money fast, etc) will be deleted. Actually, we'd probably keep the nigerian schemes around to make fun of it. |

Saya, while I agree the article isn't written all that well, it comes from a University website. Notice the .edu extension? it is from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.
I don't know who the actual author is. I assume it is from a faculty member.
The sources referred to in that article are all given, complete with ISBN.

I'm gonna refute your whole wall of text with one sentence:
Isaiah does not mention Lilith. It mentions "Lilim" which merely means night creatures, from the root word LYL which means night. Lilith comes AFTER Lilim, not before. Thinking otherwise is like saying the word "object" is inherently tied with the ideology of Objectivism.
Q.E.D. bitch.

yeah. That makes about as much sense as saying Hebrew came before Sumerian.

If you go to the homepage he says he has an MA in Education. For the .edu site, if you go back to the rklein part, I cannot find where it links to Genesis's Genesis and the theology professor who runs it doesn't write the articles he hosts, he just links them without really much comment about how accurate they are. Looks like he had the article up but didn't link it on his actual website. When I go back to the "Main Page", its a .net, and when I link through to the article again, it is still .net.
http://www.bibleorigins.net/genesisgenesis.html
And this time actually has his name. From a look on WorldCat, dude never published. He says later in this version of the article that he was a Art and Social Studies middle school teacher. Dude breaks down in rants without really quoting anyone, claims to be a scholar, and loves to quote books that are super old.

Only in Sumerian, not in Hebrew. I said lYl, not lIl. IT's fucking annoying that you're using another culture entirely to talk about a Jewish folk tale.

I understand that Alan. That's completely not the point. The point is Hebrews did not just dream up the concept of lil on their own. The babylonian concept morphed into the hebrew concept over time. Lilitu is babylonian, much older than hebrew. Lilim is Hebrew. They both represent virtually the same thing. But if you choose to believe they're entirely unrelated, completely against all the evidence that says otherwise, so be it.
I'm by no means saying you're wrong Saya. You definitely have a much better understanding of religions than I do and I never intended this to become a week-long argument. All I was doing is defending my position on the subject after being attacked for "not knowing shit". I don't understand why it's so difficult to accept that Hebrews borrowed their beliefs from an amalgamation of older beliefs. No one is saying they sat down and wrote Genesis in a day, or any other portion of the bible in such a way. But to completely disregard the fact that so many of the elements in genesis, and other books, to an extent, mirror much older myths, to me, is asinine. They tell the same stories because they lived in the same neighborhood. But whatever. I'll continue doing my own research. I'm not gonna argue about this anymore cause it's making me want to strangle bunny rabbits in front of little kids on easter sunday.

Know what's asinine? Saying that Enuma Elish and Genesis is identical based on the ramblings of a retired middle school teacher and archaic monomyth theory, then get upset when I repeatedly say "some things are borrowed, but its far from identical.", then act like you were the one saying that all along.

They couldn't come up with the concept of.... darkness on their own?
It's not like they once closed their fucking eyes and came up with a name for that?
Lil and LYL have no linguistic connection to each other. Your rationalization is as idiotic as if one were to say that the word for dog in Spanish (perro) comes from the same linguistic root as the word 'pear' and therefore dogs are related to pears.

Hey, you know what I just realized? The Japanese word for "blue" is "ao", pronounced like "ow". The Japanese must have borrowed the concept for pain from us and associate it with the colour blue!

Why do you think bruises are black and blue?
*ow*
It's brilliantly flawless logic that only one person is smart enough to figure out.

Can I accept Jesus as my pizza delivery man? Or as my shoeshine boy?

You will readily believe one historically proven figure but not another? That's like saying that you believe in Lee Harvey Oswald but not John Kennedy. Saint Nicholas is just as real as Jesus was. So they have been name-checked and their message twisted but they were still real. Stupid fuck. Do your research.

Jesus paid your sin debt in full, the debt that you owed god because of your sin that you could never pay off, Jesus naid it to the cross having paid it in full. will you accept Jesus as paying off your sin debt?

Dear Pothead,
My dad was a baptist Pastor, I KNOW what Jesus did during his life and death.

It isn't free if something is required in exchange.
