Huh, well, sweet. The show is going to be great, for me. I'm nervous as fuck, I mean, this is my performance, and I need to kick ass in order to attract the attention of a drummer and a bassist.

Why haven't i found this thread before? I'm done acting a fool!

I started playing the guitar when I was 15. Does that mean I have been playing for 6 years? People say I am a great guitarist and not a shabby singer and I have just recently gotten confidence in what I do. The only "show" I guess I could say I did was a battle of a bands in front of 45 people. Nothing awesome. I write mostly my own stuff and I have lots of fun playing. It is all mostly acoustic Ibanez v-series yadayadayada! my line 6 spider III amp died on me and I need a job in order to get a new one and fix that one. It wasn't a bad amp! I mostly started out with learning john mayer, taking back sunday, afi, and mostly soft pop rock! I am pretty good at playing and singing at the same time. All those easy chord songs sure helped. I don't really learn songs I just play them and forget them! LIke I said I mostly play my own stuff.

When I say write my own stuff I play sing record then write down whatever happened! Whenever I try to write lyrics first it comes out like boo boo!!

I'm forgetful, so I write down the lyrics and chords then practice them... I haven't done any recording for a long time, I need to do some, though.

I can notice the tone in the strings of bass, but I'm trying to hear the difference in guitar string sounds.

I guess it's cause I've never played on a new set. (I've never broken a string before....)

kinda seems like never breaking a string is a bad sign!!! not really!! You are lucky!!
I've broken my share of strings....and guitars!!!!

hmm...

When I get new strings I can hear when they are worn of that sound I like, plus I play everyday for minimum of an hour or so! i've rarely gone days without playing, but i did when i started playing fallout 3. Seems you get better with rest too!! I used to be able to play one a set for 6 months, like the ones i have on nows its been maybe close to 4....i think it is eric johnson who can tell the difference in the sound batteries make in his pedals!!! Now that's a crazy EAR!!

p.s.
i can't wait to get my hands on a bass!!

I've played since I was about 13, so that's 5 years. I kind of started off on my dads Tele and just kind of put my fingers wherever sounded nice. From there It kind of developed and now I mostly play songs by ear. I never put in the effort to learn chords, let alone tabs or sheet music. People say I'm a good guitarist, but I think I'm shit.

Mister Thunders!!! The guitarist I respect the most are the ones who learn by ear.
It doesn't help that I have some bad hearing at times, maybe that's why I can think i play good!

I mean knowing chords and keys is just another way to communicate between musicians! ANd if you are in that situation I assume you could just listen to what they are playing and pick up nicely! I mean it takes me some time to pick up a song by ear but when I do I get excited, I just became lazy in that aspect! my best friend T-Dubb learned and played by ear and he's pretty awesome!

I've played acoustic guitar by ear since I was about 8. I don't know shit about theory, but it's very therapeutic.

Lol, borrow one of mine, I have 4 basses, and one soon to come.

Well, here's a trick, when your strings go dead, soak them in rubbing alcohol (i believe) and it revives the strings tone (the new zingy sound) in a mason jar or some container. I know it helps me with my bass strings, since they tend to be on the expensive side for constant replacement.

Dude, we musicians of Gnet... instead of some little show, put on a fucking Music Festival. We'd have punk, noise, noise rock, pop rock, death rock, metal... dude, we could pull it off. It'll be years before we coould, though.

Speaking of string maintenance, has anyone tried using GHS Fast Fret on their strings before and after playing ?

http://www.ghsstrings.com/products.php

At the minimum guitar or bass strings should be replaced once or twice a year, and more so if your reforming live often !!!.

As far as strings go, for my guitars I use D`Addarrio 10`s, or a hybrid set of 10 gauge on the bass strings and 9 gauge on the treble strings.

http://store.daddario.com/category/1...&currency_id=1

For my bass guitars I use the Rotosound `Steve Harris` signature set for the 4 strings, or the Rotosound Swing Bass (Lethean uses these too, I think) and there is a Ernie Ball set that I like for 5 string.

http://www.rotosound.com/

So what strings does everyone else use and why ?

I have a particular bass whose strings haven't been changed in 3 years or more. I don't play on it anymore as it's more for sentimental value though.
For bass strings I love the Fender sets, both for value and their full tone. I've tried them all just about and I come back to those. They either sound great and are like $32, or $18 and super thin and toneless. The Fender sets are somewhere in between.

I do like rotosounds, but I like their standard RS66 nicklewound strings (stainless steel will eat your frets or fretboard alive)

Martin Co. 12gauge acoustic!! I just grew to love the sound

I wear my strings out fast and love to do a lot of recording.

I bought a pack of ten online once and it lasted me a good year!

If I played shows it would've been worse.

I woulda gone through so many sets of strings!

Dude, I have an idea for a song, inspired by my favorite scene from Fast Times as Ridgemont High.

Haven't decided... so far It's just a A to BM type rhythm with some G's and E thrown in, I already have the first verse down.

Duane what is the overall mood of the song your writing, because that will a large influence on the chords or progressions you might want to use ?

Is it a happy or a sad song ?

If you tell me, I might be able to suggest a cool progression for you ?

And Fast Times At Ridgemont High is a brilliant film !!!.
