Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Try the early Therapy? albums, Troublegum in particular. Great songs too.
Duckie: Going to give it a try and see out it turns out!

Hm, sounds excellent. Might try learning a couple of sex pistol songs, too.

Pixies songs are great to learn.
Mir, I recommend getting a cheap toy keyboard, the type you can get in Aldi or Argos for around £15. And pay a visit to Maplin and get some components.

Hey, any of you know how to pull off a pinch harmonic? I think I managed to pull one off, but I have no Idea as to how I did it.

The way I do it (which was tought to me by a friend, and so is almost certainly not the right way to do it) is to just catch the string with my thumbs as I pick the note

The quickest way is to just knock off the picked string slightly.

I never dream of fan clubs and sold out concert halls and arenas. I always viewed writing songs as more of a hobby or just plain fun. Having a few people come and see me play those songs or buy a recording is cool enough.

I've been over shadowed by my siblings since I was born, they both overshadowed me academically, athletically, staying out of trouble, and alot of other things. I just really want to be superior to them in one way, that's all. So, I figured if I was a big famous musician, I wouldn't feel overshadowed anymore. I don't hate them, I love them so very much... but it can get frustrating being known as their little brotehr, or my parent's kid.

I don't think I could deal with being famous. I'd probably end up crazier than Britney.

I was playing mah guitar, and decided that the lyrics of my song... well, too cliche... even for me... so I'm in the process of re-writing the lyrics.

I play, for now, an Ibanez RG. It's black with a white pinstripe outline.
I've been playing for only...2 years and for two years I'm guessing I'm amazing or something, because everyone thinks I've been playing for somewhere around five or six years.
I play mostly Deathcore and Death metal.
Last time you guys heard me play (for those of you who are still around from then) I pretty much sucked at guitar.
But over the past few whatevers I've become a lot more technically proficient.

cradle, I'd love to hear you play. Can you post a vid?
Also, what is your practice routine? How did you get to where you are today?

I have been playing guitar for about six years now. I prefer acoustic. I love playing guitar, I'm not really amazing, but my friends or anybody I've ever played with could never out play me.

Hah.
Well, when my band gets a myspace up, I can show you that, which will be in about a month.
Or I could just post some random licks in a video.
Maxx's practice:
Warm ups! Lots of them.
Do lots of lateral dexterity exercises.
And...be born for it.
My father, who is no longer with us, played guitar his whole life.
He wasn't professionally, but I'm certain he could have been up in the ranks of someone like...john petrucci if he really wanted to. He didn't want to be a musician for the sake of the family.

Here's one of the easiest riffs ever written, and everybody recognizes it.
Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water"

I really want to learn some T. Rex and Pentagram solos too, but tabbers just don't like transcribing solos.

OK, here's a link to a song of mine that most people tell me the guitar work is pretty cool. The song is called "Bonfire" and it was recorded about 20 years ago (I guess I've been playing for longer than most of you have been born).

Here's a list of tabs for solos. Only 100, but they're the most requested.

Tabs have been taken off that site
And something that amuses me. A friend of mine, been playing for over two years...never learnt that main riff to smoke on the water.
I mean, I have a friend who can't even pick a guitar properly who can play that riff........

That's not so odd. I've been playing for years, since before I was ten, I only know the name of the D chord.
It's D.

Here’s a link to one of my songs. The pseudo-intellectual pud-whacking solo at the end of the song was always my favorite. It’s the last minute of the song so if you want just flash forward to the 3:55 mark in the song.
