Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

You could always just put your computer mic next to your amp and record that way. That's how I did it for about a year, then I got M-Audio Jamlab from a local guitar center. And about the detuning, I usually just record the guitar at regular tuning and lower the pitch afterwards using Audacity. Saves a lot of trouble.

I like Drop D tuning, seeing as Helmet helped pioneer it, and I LOVE Helmet, a lot. Bass wise, I stay in standard, although drop D is fun.

What would be better, a Gibson SG, or Gibson Les Paul?

Depends on what kind of sound you want. An SG is chunkier than a Les Paul. I'm not sure, I'm a bassist. :/

Alt rock, but also good for ballads. So, which one would be best?

Or you can do what I did. Switch over to bass. I've become quite acomplished too. I hope someday to be ass good as Rainy from DISCHARGE or Henry Bogdan from HELMET

I'm tabbing a little musical piece I heard from the Sailor Moon anime, bwu ha ha ha ha ha. I don't care if you think it's stupid, because I don't care, because it's not like it'll be good enough for me to get upset, in case someone were to insult my work.

I wish I had a bass...I love bass so much.
Then I can learn to stop doing fingerstyle guitar technique on bass, like the massive twat that I am.

Bass is great, but you will forever be frowned upon by every mad person who thinks that because it has 1 or 2 less strings, its somehow massively inferior.
Then you melt their face off with some m4d sk1llz.
And I went to guitar after playing bass, its kinda a good progression, as is the other way round, both instruments will hel you become better at the other.
And I echo what haggarddoll said about practice - practice is everything, but only good practice....if you do things wrong you'll continue to do them wrong for a loooong time. Or if you have no dreams of guitar awesomeness, learn a bit,and be happy

I hate competition when it comes to instruments...people already think i'm inferior because of my gender....I actually think guitarists, especially those that play metal have an exceptionally bad attitude towards guitar and bass. I'm basing this...on actual quotes being sent in my direction by particular people.
Usually you can feel if you're doing something wrong...If it hurts...you shouldn't be doing it lol. I think the most important thing though...is to hold the guitar in a way where you have comfortable access to all the frets. Alot of people when they first learn do things like that, someone said it takes years to learn how to master how to hold the guitar properly....Now...that is ridiculous...just takes like...a few days, maybe.
I'm gunna stop babbling now.

Neither, lol...
I kid, if I was forced to get a gibson I'd get the Les Paul, I have a thing for heavier guitars.

Storm: One of the best bass players in the world would have to be Flea. He is fucking brilliant. Come to think of it, RHCP is such an awesome band till Anthony Keidis comes along and fucks everything up.

I mostly agree with what you've said there. As far as I'm concerned, you play music for yourself. If other people happen to like it, then that's cool but if not, that's cool too.

My favorite bassists are Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, Lemmy from Motorhead, but my hero bassist is
Chuck Dukowski from BLACK FLAG. Awesome dude.

Oh, I play music for myself ^_^! I love to play some wierd shit that only about 20% of people get. I'm happy with that though.

It must be tough finding band mates. I get that problem. I played some riffs for a friend and he wanted to;
a) keep two riffs and leave one out.
b) form a band with me.
I said no because he wanted to drop one of the riffs. haha.
