Hot Topic is not at all how I imagined them to end up.

Like you were saying.

I think their slogan used to be something like "everything about the music"

So yhea where did that ethic wonder off to?

About half if the stuff they sale is what the majority of the "in-mall" shoppers would accept.

They do try to damn hard.

To bad they don't seem to know shit about music.

What the hell are you guys talking about? Hot Topic was always overpriced crap that was meant to capitalize on whatever subculture happens to be the most popular, right now it is a combo of hipster and emo (hence all of the random crap). This isn't to say that it is terribly evil or that nothing there is worth buying, their clearance racks can have some pretty sweet deals, but it was never about the music, it is owned by a major fucking corporation, it is about making lots of money.

You actually had to ask this? Anyone with half an eye and less of a brain could tell you the answer is YES.

As whoever said before me, Hot Topic exists only to appeal to the masses, as it's obviously a business I think this is good idea. Most 16 year old kids like all the shit in that store, so that's what they sell. Market it with a "hardcore" image and you have them all hooked. They make a hell of a lot more money annually than, say, Ipso Facto (for example). Because they don't try to appeal top only one or two demographics. I think Hot Topic is smart as hell, and PS-I've bought a pair of heels from there once. Not bad.

My two favorite pairs of pants (including the blue leopard print ones that a few members are so jealous of) were found in Hot Topic. The store does get some nice inventory, they just also have a lot of crap and tend to have pretty high prices, so I stay away from anything other than their clearance racks.

I usually just cut up fishnet stockings to make sleeves, but the shirts I've bought have all been at this flea market near my house for 5 bucks a pop.

Just look around.

Eh all of my clothes are pretty normal (okay so maybe not the previously mentioned pants but just about everything else), it really comes down to how you pair things together and how you accessorize, especially when parents have some say.

Personally, I would say Hot Topic tries just as hard as any other retail chain store to satisfy the "genre" of people it's geared towards.

As for the Ninja Turtles crap and such, that is also what seems to be something that a lot of stores are doing. I guess you could call it "retro" or something, but most stores do it, and it attracts people. Because these are things people grew up loving, and still love.

Don't we already have a Hot Topic bashing thread somewhere? I'm almost sure of it. I don't want to encourage anyone to necro old threads but it would be better than rehashing the same arguments again and again and again and again....

....you're jumping someone else's train.

I can honestly say I have not bought anything for myself there in ages, but I did make some really good Super Mario clothing purchases for my son there for X-mas.

Eh the ones here suck, mainly due to the area I live in, the clothes tend to be rather cheap "trendy" crap from last year that is already starting to fall apart. Back home things may have been dated styles but the fabrics were pretty awesome so you could deconstruct them and make them into something cool.
