Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

I like a lot of the less "gothy" music.
Regina Spektor, Gatsby's American Dream, Weezer, Mineral, Cap'n Jazz, Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, All Time Low, Mindless Self-Indulgence, Vintersorg, Arcturus, Children of Bodom, Atari Teenage Riot... I could go on...

I listen to a wide variety of music. A lot of it is goth, some of it isn't. I guess the "un-gothiest" would probably be Tegan and Sara, Ani Difranco, Queen, Weird Al, or *cringe* Smile DK. Curse you, DDR, for getting their stuff stuck in my head! Curse you!
All in all, however, I listen to goth, darkwave, synthpop, futurepop, a smidgen of Jpop, some classic rock, some metal (mostly of the 70s and 80s variety), maybe a handful of industrial, songs from movies and plays I like (including some instrumental numbers, such as several songs off The Dark Crystal soundtrack), a few punk songs, two or three classical songs (more if you classify Bond as classical), a little filk/folk, and a few miscellaneous 80s new wave and 90s pop songs.

The Presets, The Mighty Boosh soundtrack from all three seasons and some old eighties that were not considered "goth" like INXS, The Cure, etc. are what I would consider "ungothy" music.

Fado music is a passion of mine. There's so much passion in the music, especially vocally. Let me see if I can pull up a video on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZUjZ...eature=related . If the link doesn't work just search "Fado" on Youtube. This woman has a gorgeous voice. If you're not use to World Music it might be a little off-putting. Fado is just so emotive. It's as sombre as the most depressing-sounding Gothic or dark music. It's just another style. It's a form of music i'm very passionate about.
I pride myself on being able to go outside of the Gothic/Metal/Punk/Rock N Roll box. I really love Jazz, Blues, Irish, World, traditional Spanish/Mariachi, some Opera, some Classical, some Indian, some Country, some Middle Eastern, etc etc. I"ll try anything once. And if I like it i'll revisit it.
I just have a passion for discovering new things. I don't like to limit myself. Music to me is about learning about people's experiences. Cause people's experiences are different. I love listening to the different ways people construct and sing lyrics, and the different styles they use to express themselves, (yet convey the same emotions.) There's not a lot of major differences between most genres to me, except in sound. Music is just a thing I feel strongly about and I want to experience it from as many angles as possible.
