There's really no point in arguing over such a thing, is there? That's part of the trouble in the world today. We argue about shit that we're never going to agree on and we're missing out on the finer things in life. A Christian could witness to me until s/he chokes on his/her words but I'm still not going to believe in anything the Bible says. In that time, s/he could have been doing something worthwhile.

My favourite family guy episode is the one where peter goes to D.C. to stop the anti smoking bill.

"You may have killed her when you shoved all those dollar bills down her throat, you may have killed her when you hit her with the stool... I don't know, I'm not a doctor. But I'll tell you what didn't kill her.... smoking!"

They've banned smoking everywhere in New Zealand almost. One of my friends favourite habits is to stand right next to the NO SMOKING sign next to the BSC building at massey, and put his cigarette butt's out on it. Personaly, i have nothing against smokers unless you're with some wanker who blows the smoke in your face, but most smokers i know are actually considerate enough to never light up when they're around non-smokers. I think this anti-smoking bullshit is just another way to take away people's personal choice and it pisses me off. I think having an age limit is bad enough, but telling people where they can't is over the top.

When I'm around others, smokers or not, I make a conscious effort to blow the smoke away from them.

Exactly, which is what most people who actually have a heart do. Smokers need to get a break, it's not like they're smoking to try to kill everyone else by second hand smoking.

I like that. Somkers are not trying to kill nonsmokers. I just want to smoke in peace. That is all. During my really shitty day at work, I want to smoke. It makes it easer to deal. I don't know if it really does but it is my saftey blaket so to speek. Three hours of sleep and back to work. I get to work all weekend. I am in the mililtary. I had to work last weekend which was military apperation day. Fuck I am tired.

If smoking relieves stress for some people i think it's better for them to smoke than to die of high blood pressure illnesses and cardiovascular related illnesses.

http://www.everybody.co.nz/page-455e...227df655e.aspx

that link's a good read on a finish study done on workers who had stressful jobs and goes on about how the mortality rate in workers with high stress jobs doubled in comparison to their other workers with less stressful jobs, but it was related to working with heavy machinery, so i guess it can be related to the military. Now that i think about it, most people i've met who are in the military smoke........

Smoking was made illegal in all enclosed public spaces, including PUBS in Scotland this March. I really don't think it should be banned in pubs, but definitely in restaraunts and places that serve food. I agree with the ban on smoking in work places too, it's not fair on people that smoke.

I am a smoker. I'm also asthmatic and hate the smell of stale cigarette smoke, so i can see both sides of the arguement. I only smoke rollies (which smell and taste better, and have less chemicals), and only around open windows or outside. Like pitseleh i only smoke around 5 a day.

I'm not a smoker and I never have been. It doesn't bother me if people smoke around me when I'm outside, or at least in an area where there is a constant entrance of fresh air. What does bother me is if I decide to go out to a bar or a club, places which are stuffy enough as it is without the added smoke. I mean, who wants to have smoke forced down their throat when they're finding it hard enough to breath as it is?

My father rolls his own too, Lovechild. They stink, but they don't set my asthma off.

But he does tend to leave little tobacco trails behind him... I'm arachnophobic, and from a distance.. well, you get the picture!

Yes i know! I started smoking when i was 15, behind my mum's back. I went into my room one day and saw what i thought was a big spider sitting on my bed (i'm really short-sighted). I'm terrified of spiders so i shouted my mum and asked her to get rid of it, it turned out to be a wee pile of tobacco. It's actually quite funny now, even though i got hell.

Still cheaper than in England. I buy a shit load of fags before I go over to see me clan. The extra 50p a pack means a lot to me!

I wasn't aware that the fag price was to combat it though. Weren't they allways a rip-off? I thought that was why they banned 10 packs? To stop the little kids from buying them. Which is a real pain in the arse because now when I fancy a couple over the weekend, I end up chuffing twenty! I hardly smoked when I could buy ten at a time.

Then again. I'm an on off smoker. At the moment and for the last 3 weeks, I've been off.

Gawd, I'm going fuckin bugnutz over here in lovely, seasonable, smokeless hell.

I wanna cig...Iwannacigiwannacigsomebodygimmieafukincig...

I hate quitting because the damned government decided to make it too expensive to smoke. They use economics to control my bad habit, but don't do anything to lower the prices on the utilities, housing, you name it....

And what about their little perks? Junketing all over the country on my tax dollars, padding bills with pork to please special interest groups, taking their 3 martini lunches...

So, only rich people can smoke. I guess the poor ones are more important than the rich ones. I feel so special.

SMOOOOOKE!

That's a good one. do you know how many more millions the government makes on taxes on cigarettes? If everybody would quit smoking today, more then one government would have a major monetary problem within months. Yeah us smokers are really bad because 65% of the money we pay for cigarettes goes straight to the government.

When i was working on sea going vessel I used to buy them taxfree. Did you know that for the price of to packs of smokes, you can get a complete 200 taxfree?

Do the math.

Very cute indeed...where the hell do you get those?

Anyway, here's the solution.

Step 1: Bring the tobacco industry down.
Step 2: Legalize marijuana.
Step 3: Bring the marijuana industry up.
Problem solved.

But then you still need tobacco to put in the joint, unless you used bongs all the time which is awkward.

I can not understand smokers!

Why do people smoke?
Does it help you in any way?
Is it cool?

No at all! Smokers will suffer for their lifetime. Dying because of lung cancer, getting impotent, amputating legs, killing brain cells....etc.

What a life?!

And I really HATE people smoking near by pregnant women. I mean it is proofed that smokong changes the DNA and suppports mutation.

To understand mybe my opinion you have to know that I'm from Germany. Sure one package of cigarettes costs 5,50 EUR but you are allowed to smoke everywhere. At the airport, hospitals, restaurants, kindergartens, pubs, bars, clubs, working place. Simply everywhere.
This year they start to demount cigarettes coin machines and assemble creditcards machines. So in the past every kid, if it had some bugs left could buy them. Smells like tobacco lobby/marfia.
Ok you would they that it is the fault of the government. I say think about 1 second and you will see its a individual fault every day.
Nobody forces you to smoke!

As a nonsmoker its pretty hard to find places with clean air. A week ago i got my data from my annual body inspection. 25% of my lungs polluted with niotine and tar and its getting daker and darker each year.

Son Of Lilith-I'd suggest backing your arguments with facts before you start whining.

1.Impotancy? Amputated limbs? How does smoking create those kinds of problems?

2.Smoking does NOT change DNA structure or create mutations, and this is just "science 101". OK, if you're confused, here's a REALLY basic breakdown-DNA is a strand of information that cannot be change by outside forces that aren't small enough to fit in between the strands (for example-radiation particles can fit in between the strands of info, thus radiation can change the basic make-up of how the info of a DNA strand communicates with other info spots on the same strand). Smoke, however, happens to be TOO FUCKING THICK to fit in between said strands.

3.25% of your lungs polluted by tar and nictine? I'm gonna say "bullshit!" on you. For one thing, there's been no viable way of measuring the amount of nicotine that can be passed via second hand. However, there HAS been a way of measuring the amount of tar a person picks up from outside sources. Strangely enough, every study that has ever been done about where the tar comes from points to one thing as being the main source-car exhaust. That's right. See, for those not in the know, there has only been 2 studies done about the effects of second hand smoke on the rest of the populace. One test (done by the EPA of the US) is not a valid test, since they created false positives to back up their claims (such as, if somebody died of leukemia, and they'd been around a smoker for part of their life, their death was attributed to second hand smoke. The kicker being that leukemia is a genetic disease...don't let the anti-smoking whiners know that). Thus, the EPA study is only considered by scientists and anybody with more than two working grey cells whenever they want a good laugh. The second study, done by the world health organization, DOES find a connection between second hand smoke and health problems. They found that a non-smoker around second hand smoke has a 0.000087342% higher chance of developing health problems than a non smoker who stays away fom second hand smoke. If the number confuses you, let me put it into perspective-you have a higher chance of a rhino crushing you in the middle of an afternoon in New York city (about a 0.0034% chance, to be exact). However, the WHO study DID find a major link between worse health problems and pollution. Specifically car exhaust fumes. So if you're really all about cleaner air, I'd suggest getting people around you to stop driving, since that's where all the carcinogens, tar, and multiple other poisons are coming from (not to mention all those fun chemicals that are eating away at our ozone, thus making skin cancer rates grow like an 18 year olds hard-on next to an Angelina jolie-Monica Bellucci-Asia Argento daisy chain).

But it's not really about cleaner air, is it? No, it's about imposing your beliefs and ideals upon th entire populace without including them in the proccess. I used to try reason with your type, but in actuality, there's only one thing to say to you and your kind-fuck you and fuck your self-important whining. My body, my fucking choice. And if you don't wanna go someplace where there might be nasty smokers around, just DON'T FUCKING GO THERE! See? simple solution.

Hopefuly that'll get you to shut the fuck up...then again, I used facts and logic. I highly doubt that you will.

They just did the ban in my county... sucks (even though I can see things from a non-smoker view)
The only thing that really sucks about it is, the wife and I used to sit in resteraunts for hours... just enjoying each others company. Especially when there was nothing better to do, we'd just sit and drink coffee and smoke. That can no longer happen (especially for me, being a chain smoker and needing one shortly after a meal).

Actually, it can lead to amputated limbs. My great uncle had to have both his legs removed shortly before he died, smoking had cut off the circulation in them.
