It's a pastry-type thing shaped like a school bus. It's an unnatural yellow sugary soft cake filled with cream. I fucking hate cream. Sweets suck. BRING ON THA SALT, BITCH.

Oreos are only worth nomming if they've got peanut butter smeared on so thick that they become naught but a vessel for the peanutty spread.

PS-where did my food thread go?

I still don't give a fuck if someone wants to eat McDonald's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and slowly kill themselves until the day they die. If they enjoy it, all the more power to them. However, would taxing them more for such behavior (in a system where there is universal health care) be efficient and right? You've got me leaning towards yes, and showed me I really don't know shit about this issue. In such a system, it seems, as long as they pay their extra due, I have no problem with them being fat.
I'm of a mind that people should want to take care of themselves, not begrudgingly pay a tax and then go off and kill themselves faster. We would need to overhaul the education system and indoctrinate (not a negative word, despite the ugly connotations brought to mind by its use in U.S. society) our youth with ideas and values that promote a sense of health, well-being, community, and a desire to maintain all of them.

It's idealism on my part, and I doubt I'll live to see anything of the kind come into being in the U.S. My dreams of change will stay just that. I'll have to settle for doing what I think is right, and trying to make my own tiny corner of the country better, since I'm not smart or capable enough to start any kind of real movement.

I know what you're saying, and I agree with you. And I figure that most people who are morbidly obese have little idea of what harm they're doing to their bodies, or, if they do, they don't know how to change it. At least, not effectively. Because our society is into the whole "quick fix" thing, where eating lettuce and pineapples for two weeks will make you skinny and it will make you skinny forever.

However, on the other hand, I am also open to the possibility that there are more hedonistic people out there who don't mind paying the extra tax, and who don't mind that they'll die young, they want to eat how they want to eat. If that's the way they want to live, I say all the more power to them.

You know, I don't care if someones fat. Hell, after losing half my own body weight, I'm STILL classed as overweight according to my BMI. What I do take offense to, is people claiming that being morbidly obese is an illness. Shoveling gross amounts of food into yourself just for the sake of eating is not an illness, it's greed. I'm not talking about people who are a bit chubby, or even those who are naturally on the larger side, I'm talking about people who eat for the sake of eating. The kind of people who require specially re-enforced stretchers, ambulances, beds and lifting equipment, or even in extreme cases, firemen to attend just to get them out of the house to receive hospital treatment. Yes, losing weight is hard, it's really hard but it CAN be done. MY GP was brutal, he turned round and said, right to my face, 'you are fat, grossly obese in fact and if you don't lose weight, you will be having major health problems within the next five years.' He didn't sugar coat it, he didn't pander to my delicate fat feelings and he didn't try to excuse me, he told me how it was and told me it was up to me to sort it out.

I accept that there are some people who have certain types of medical conditions that make it difficult to lose weight, I also accept that there are certain types of medications that can make you gain weight or have trouble losing it ( I suffer this myself due to meds I'm taking but I've so far managed to keep my weight gain because of it to a minimum as best I can) but morbid obesity is not an illness for most people, it's a choice.

I don't know what the health care system is like in the US but here, I was given access to a dietitian, free membership to a gym and offered support from my doctor in order to get myself going. It was up to me to take the help though. At the end of the day, it's about CHOICE. The help was there for me when I needed it, I just had to make the decision to take it and use it.

In the US it's extremely expensive to see a dietitian (thought that was spelled 'dietician' but it's marking it with a red line so what do I know) and gym memberships are often appalingly high as well. Basically the doctors tell you about stats, not weight. I mean, if you're obese they'll tell you, and if your heart is bad, they'll tell you, but they only really act once you've had a heart attack or have to be airlifted out of your bedroom window.
Once that happens they tell you that you need emergency fat surgery, but first you have to lose 100 pounds-go forth and make this happen!

Yeah, I can't really comment about the US health system because I really don't know much about it. I always thought it was spelled dietician as well but it told me I was wrong?

What I want to know is why when a fat person "shovels massive amounts of food down their fat faced gullet like a fat, fat cow" it's gross and unhealthy, but if a skinny person with a naturally fast metabolism who never exercises does the same thing, nobody says a word. Berate one person for not exercising and eating massive amounts of crap food (aka fat people), then you should berate everyone.

I don't ever exercise and I'm not overweight. I eat way too much food, I smoked about half a pack a day or more. I have like NO muscle mass and I get too tired with physical stuff to continue in about a minute. I'm way less healthy than a lot of overweight people I know but nobody says shit to me about my health.

Damn I want free access to an NHS gym. Do you reckon if I walked in in a fat suit they'd let me join?
But to take a serious point I think that 1:
some people have psychological problems whereupon they turn to food as an outlet to harm themselves (as well as cutting, bulimia, alcoholism and other form of self harm) and
2: You're pretty fit MissCheyenne you've done well

I think it looks disgusting plus it can still be harmful to eat only unhealthy foods even if you're skinny! You can still get heart failure/dehydration issues

Yeah I can't quantify how overweight I was but I lived on a diet of mostly rice puddings and pot noodles/ pizza in my first year of uni. I joined a gym in the first year though and have been working out ever since.
It is hard when you start but I am blessed with an amazing willpower for things that I think are really worth doing. It still hurts like a bitch though

It's an interesting point. I think though, being skinny is seen as far more socially acceptable than being fat is. There's a common misconception that being skinny automatically means healthy when in many cases, its the exact opposite. I know plenty of people who are far thinner than I am who are much more unhealthy than me. They eat masses, smoke loads, drink loads and have no stamina at all. I'm chubby but I can outrun every single one of them. My BMI is high because I have a lot of muscle and BMI doesn't account for that. That's not to say I couldn't do with dropping a few pounds though

it's true my teamleader *sigh* at work is really skinny is always complaining about he can't put on muscle, but he eats loads of red meat. Inevitably he would up in hospital with heart problems at the age of 20!
I'm not sure what the exact cause was but it goes to show that problems that are thought to be attributable to fat people can hit skinny people.
I'd watch out and be a bit more healthy pineapple dude!

I have read that this actually isn't true. Fat/large people actually have faster metabolisms. They have to have everything going full tilt metabolically, in order to power their much larger bodies around.
