I'm supposed to be doing my assignments. .
Well as we all know I'm new here, so hi everyone and nice to meet you all!
I'm from Asia but currently living in Australia, and I haven't been here for that long so my apologies for poor spelling and grammar. I'm studying business which I personally really despise, uuhhhmm. . what else? I love almost any kind of movies except for those stupid comedies or cheap chick flicks, I love reading too but I have a strange taste in books and am a bit choosy. I'm so interested in stories about English monarchs before 20th century, and that is mostly what I like to read and watch. I can't spend an hour without music, and I like art and sports too.
Oh if I haven't make it clear I'm a chick and I'm not 20 yet.

Just some, comedies that have disgusting things in them and the makers thought they were supposed to be funny.
Why? You like comedies? I like them if they're really good.

I don't watch many comedies either. I read alot of web-comics though, most of the humour there is satirical and/or sarcastic.
I like Jack Dee as well, and I sometimes watch Friends.

Are you testing me? Haha, actually even though I have been reading about it I won't say I'm an expert on it, or at least know much. But if you wanna have a discussion I'll be open for it.
Well from what I've read if seems that the Westerns were pretty much ahead than Asians, that could be seen from the colonialism, and the development of medicines and technology and such, but when I see the way people behave, there was not many differences, we were all like, conservative (and might I add a bit cruel) back then, from what I've read.
Please do tell if you know more or don't agree

Thanks for what you said,my experiences only bounded on textbooks so I have to agree most of your arguments, but in theory, what people behaves is foundamentally determined by their lever of technology. For example,Narcissism is a unfamiliar word to most of my nationals, most of them just don't have enough time to pay attention to our looks.

ViciouslyBeautiful: FYI, Dave is from The People's Republic of China (mainland China), so he is serious when he says he has limited information. So we should take his questions seriously (I thought the same thing too when I first saw his posts), and I think we may feel free to explain answers in detail without being afraid of "talking down to him".
Am I right Dave?
By the way Dave, I read your Introduction, and I like math too. I am currently struggling with Maxwell's equations, third order tensors are difficult for me. Maybe we can discuss on another thread.
Back on topic for this thread: a major difference is individual freedom of expression, and human rights in the West, as opposed to the oppression in China.
Henry Zhu, David Ji, and many other American businessmen have been kidnapped and held captive without legal recourse, unable to access lawyers or judges. They are at the mercy of the Chinese businessmen who hold them hostage until they agree to sign over their businesses or pay huge ransoms. Such criminal acts would be prosecuted in the West.
This oppressive behavior only hurts China, as this intimidates other companies from conducting business in the East.
I am very interested to hear your reply Dave.
OOPS!!! Sorry VisciouslyBeautiful, this is YOUR thread! Didn't mean to hijack it.
A very merry welcome to you!

To HumanePain:
Thanks for your infomation, our media really did not report this so far, third order tensors are not difficult for me,you may send me Emails because Gnet barely have any relevance with maths.
To VisciouslyBeautiful:
China has a history of five thouthand years and current regime only rules she for less than fifty years,I would not like you to link the behavior and culture of our people to a handful politicians.I raised the question of culture differences to you just for open discussion, you know, some cultual notes, like Shakespeare,Confucious,Gothic, etc, are known to everybody, but there are unknown subconscious things. These subconscious culture may not be awared of even by natives, but they expressed themselves through daily life and produced great culture notes mentioned above. So litter cute girl, you are such an asian decendence living among westerners that you may have a better chance to find these interesting mental phenomenon.

It's an interesting discussion you've brought up here Dave, perhaps we could start a thread in the general forum? As a westerner living in Asia for almost my whole life, I have quite a few things I'd like to say, but wouldn't want to hijack ViciouslyBeautiful's intro thread - unless she doesn't mind, of course.
But without further ado I should do what I intended to upon entering this thread:
Welcome to Gnet, ViciouslyBeautiful! So far you've been an excellent addition to the forum.

Thank you Cicero! I, too, find you to be really nice and you're among the first persons I know in Gnet
Well, Dave, to make it clear, I did not try to link between those handful politicians with the behaviour and the culture of Chinese people. I do know that China has one of the oldest culture, beside of Egypt, and my father and I find it really fascinating, my father loves it so much and tell me a lot of things about China. And in addition to that, the economic well-being is just starting to grow so fast, and economists are predicting that China will be the one of the highest developed nations in Asia, along with South Korea and Japan. Also I have a few Chinese friends here and they are really nice. So I'm just saying I'm not generalising from the behaviour of several people to judge what a nation's like.
To be honest, I'm quite impressed with how the people are reserving the historic sites, you know, Terra Cotta and such. They're really well-kept and still available to people to see. It's like you're going through a journey to the past when you come to those places, haha.
Hey I thought we were talking about ancient things, Dave! How come the subject changed to politics?
Anyway, I just wanna add, my thread is open for hijack
I like discussions, so you can talk about whatever you want.

Well,it's me who didn't make it clear first.
You don't care so I can continue to practice English here.
In terms of relic protection in china,it has been far from satisfaction. The vanish of ancient relics can not be contributed all to frequent wars in modern chinese history. The fact that chinese relics are largely constituted by wood, which is more vernerable to fires and erosion, can play a major part here. For example, the emporoer "YinZhen" who buried in Terra Cotta is the 36th heir of the Qin Kindom,he conquered other six major Kindoms and other babarians in the period of history when Alexanda The Great conquored india, his troops seized queens and princesses of those overthroned kindom, put them into a magnifcent palace called ErFang palace, that is said to be ten times more big than Forbidden palace.
Well, you guess what,...,I am only saying that because ErFang palace is made of wood,it was destoried by a fire lasting for there days and nights.

It's interesting to hear that you're studying business even though you despise it. What made you choose that field? Your taste in movies and books sounds unique and intriguing time calculator. It's always refreshing to meet someone with specific interests. The English monarchs before the 20th century have such fascinating stories, don't they?
