I would consider The Matrix and Blade Runner as cyberpunk movies than gothic. Like the settings in William Gibson's novels. I mean, if you list those two as gothic movies, you might as well add Johnny Mnemonic to the list.

While Elvira played a part in introducing me to horror movies when I was a small one, I'm just not sure if I would add to the "Top Ten Gothic Movies" list.

As for me, two movies hasn't been mentioned yet:
- Vampyr
- Haxan

Also, I would throw in Tim Burton's Batman(gothic-like setting) and White Zombie.

- Dark City [watch the director's cut, -not- the theatrical.]
- Gypsy 83 [which I didn't particularly like, but it -does- have to do with goths.]
- The Hunger

I can't think of anything else right now.

What about 9? I think that counts. (not Nine with Daniel Day-Lewis, that's something else entirely)

I think when it comes to Gothic movies, Paul Morrissey is a very interesting director. Three of his films I like..(in order of my appreciation)

"the Castle of Blood"
"Blood for Dracula"
"Flesh for Frankenstein"

!Have fun!

Why do so many of you consider the Bela Lugosi version of Dracula good, let alone on a top 10 list of any kind?

Personally, I think the movie is shit. Coppola's version is infinitely better. Bela Lugosi was wooden, the atmosphere was goofy, and the action boring. I could barely get through it. And I'm not just saying that because the movie's old, or because it's nothing like the book. Boris Karloff's Frankenstein is old, and doesn't adhere to the plot of the book at all, but it's an entertaining and interesting film. Lugosi's Dracula just... sucked. I wonder, if Bauhaus hadn't ever come out with "Bela Lugosi's Dead" would anyone like the 1931 version of Dracula?

Its good because it is so campy, and because of Bela. He's extremely endearing in that film and I kind of suspect that as the only interesting character in the movie, he probably helped the idea of "vampires are actually cool and perhaps not monsters" that plagues vampire literature and movies nowadays.

So then, we can blame goth-beloved Bela for the current Twilight craze, derided by so many goths. Now THAT is amusing.
