McCabe and Mrs. Miller - it's about cowboy whores and The Sisters stole their name from it. Actually, one of the Leonard Cohen songs in it, stupid silly Eldritch.

I'd also say The Hunger, if that hasn't yet been mentioned. It opens with "Bela Lugosi's Dead" and stars David Bowie in a movie about vampire sex. Awesome.

Buio Omega ( AKA Beyond The Darkness) by italian director Joe D'Amato,my favorite movie,more on the extreme gothic horror side,it contains some pretty twisted gory graphic scenes,but it's still has a pretty melancholic,darkly romantic goth atmosphere and story..definitely worth a look if you have a strong stomach.

Hmmm, this is a tricky one. I'll base my list on a definition of 'goth movie' as a film that is in tune with the goth mind set and/or the goth aesthetic. Of course, I'll only include films I've actually seen.

5. The City of Lost Children
6. Alien (the original)
7. Hellraiser ( I, II and III)
8. Sin City (I and II)
9. Immortal
10. Bram Stoker's Dracula

I'm not a big fan of vampire movies (or novels) especially the crassly commercial offerings of Ms Rice et al. Whilst I love all the early (30s - 60s) monster films, I think their makers where not in tune with the goth mind set - Ed Wood (the man as distinct from the film) might be an exception here. Only after the late 70s did movie makers began to tap into the embyonic but growing goth aesthetic in my opinion. By the time Tim Burton came along, well, we could just about fill in the whole list with his films alone.

I know the feeling Stormbringer. The only decent vampire flick I enjoyed that was scary in any way was Fright Night (Original 1980's version) except the clothing styles make it look even more dated than flicks from the 1960's. I'm still a sucker for classics like The Lost Boys and more recent ones like Wir Sind Die Nacht, but I'll also admit I'm getting tired of Tim Burton teaming up with Johnny Depp.

However, in the interest of this thread here's my personal top 10:

Good lists Izren and Bourbon Boy, of course anyone who wants to read/watch Ms Rice's films/books is perfectly at liberty to do so.

There is so much stuff out there, it's impossible to know where to begin. I've seen movie titles in the last few pages I've never heard of and many films, old and new sometimes have very strong gothic elements - I notice From Dusk Till Dawn hasn't received a mention (another film I was really looking forward to at the time but ended up hating)

I must have seen all the old Hammer Horror films and all the American Sci-fi of the 50s and 60s over the years; from back when they were relatively new to dvds and blurays that I now own. Of course I always secretly wanted Christopher Lee's Dracula to get away with it or the poor old Creature from the Black Lagoon to paddle off and live happily ever after in his cave with the drop-dead gorgeous and delectible Julia Adams.

I think this is a hard list to tarry without determining if you're going to include films just for their gothic qualities, or if you are going to factor in quality. If you're only interested in gothic atmosphere, I think you get a very different list that will include movies such as Underworld, etc.

It wasn't as good as Byzantium, which was amazing, so I don't want to get your hopes too high. The thing I liked about it was what Coppola did with colors and the cinematography. He really creates a unique and gothically beautiful atmosphere in that film though by contrasting black and white with reds. And I found the overall feeling to be very gothic, which is what Coppola says he set out to do.
