I love pale skin. Too bad I'm not as pale as my mom, who literally cannot get any amount of tan no matter how long she stays under the sun. Which is quite the opposite for me, where I easily get tanned, but regain my natural color a week later.
I just generally avoid the sun as much as I can, and use sunblock every day (yes, dermatologist's prescription. Sensetive skin runs in the family).

I've mixed 1 part lemon juice and 1 part milk (whole is probably the best option) let it curdle in the fridge for two days, strained it, applied the paste to my face, and left it on for 14 hours. It worked fairly well, I was a few shades lighter. Even if there is no difference, it makes your skin marvelously smooth and soft.

Isn't it ironic how this thread first was intended to give tips for acquiring by NATURAL means pale skin. Eee...The chemicals have invaded us :P

trust me, I know how you feel. In my case I'm full latina, meaning I was born with a tan. I have spent so much time and effort working on lightening (sp?) my skin and nothing works. Own it! I look much better in bright blue and pink than the traditional goth deep blues or deep purples, but you have to own it. Isn't the whole goth fashion statement about expressing who you are anyways? Yes I will always be jealous of my best friend, with her alabaster (the name of her foundation color) skin and her bright blue eyes and naturally red hair, but I am never going to look like her so I find beauty in my dark brown eyes, hair, and skin and find other ways of expressing it.
hmm... that was a rant and a half.

Yay for people with natural tans! (We get to wear better nail polish colors. I recently found that I can wear banana yellow shirts w/ pumpkin nail polish and my skin doesn't look washed out! [not that I will wear that stuff])

Really the most important thing is to keep you skin clean and healthy. I'd take my skin the way it is over dyed splottchy irritated skin any day! The healthier you skin is the better you'll look no matter what color it is.

In order to get pale, which is more effective, avoiding the sun or using chemicals and remedies?
Anyways, I live in a tropical country and there is alot of sunlight. It is very hard to completely avoid the sun, because even indorrs there is sunlight. I mostly pass my time in my room, which has two windows. I have the comp in the middle, and always have the courtins closed to avoid sunlight. I only open one of them which is away from the computer . I use sunblock every day on my arms and face (because those are the only parts of my body not covered by clothes), but that is not enough. I will try to use the remedies, but what else should I do to get pale skin and remove the tan in it (my skin is not tanned, but not pale either, even after my efforts to keep it pale).

i have my pale Irish and Scandinavian skin so i burn and freackle easily...my tip for staying pale if you're fair skinned is ALWAYS wear sunblock(the highest you can find..i use SPF 50) even in the car because that's where i burn most ofter and get a nice parasol..they can be helpful if your chilling outside...or even a pretty umbrella would work

I simply avoid the sun as much as I can and wear sunblock of a high protection when it's very sunny or I have to be a lot of time outdoors by daylight.
I can't find any bleaching chemicals in the area where I live, and I'm slightly afraid of them too. And all those mixtures of milk, lemon and that sort of thing never worked on me (and by the way, I find them quite stinky when I put them on >_<)

It definitely helps that I'm nocturnal, and when I'm NOT nocturnal, sickly.
^_^
A note on chemicals: Be very careful. I've seen someone have an unknown allergy to one, and her skin became a permanent blotchy red.

Try to avoid sunlight or goin out during the day. There's this lotion called Fair and Lovely which is amazing and needs time to work, a cleanser is available as well. as for arms and legs, well, waxing is great, u don't have to do it to remove hair only but the wax ( the one which is put like roll on then u remove with a special paper) automatically removes gunk or that dead skin layer which makes ur arms and legs appear darker. I swear, it totally works! I have my own waxing kit at home. The wax refills and paper aren't that pricey, just acquire the unit.

I've mentioned this before I'm sure, but the truth is, I really look like a damn doll-baby. I have very pale skin, with freckles across my nose, big eyes, and a very round, childish face.
Also, once again, really freaking pale.
I wear strong sunblock, not to stay pale, but to protect myself. UV rays=bad. As a side effect, I stay very white. (Damn Irish/Czech genes)
I sometimes wish that I was darker naturally, with an olive tone or Hispanic. I imagine my skin would have an easier time.

I actually get fairly tan in the summertime, but my brother and mom burn when they're out in the sun. I guess you want what you can't have; they wish they had my complexion. When the summer heat reaches its peak, I don't even look like I resemble them.

I was in a commercial for Fair and Lovely, and trust me, it's kind of... bullshit. The 'success story' in the ad was produced from different coloured foundations, as well as making my character (not a success story) about ten tones darker with bronzer. Even if it seems to be working it isn't magic - when there's lightening there's bleaching, and when there's bleaching there's damage being done.
I'm an advocate for sunscreen, exfoliation, and nothing more. Any form of chemical lightening (or darkening) of the skin causes more harm than good.

I get tan during the summer like crazy, I don't even try to avoid it anymore because it's too much of a pain in the ass.

If anything, I think that those who tan in the summer should be proud of it. Tan is beautiful. The proverbial human complexion scheme has many levels; why try to just meet one? Your skin complexion doesn't change who you are; however, it can help define your appearance. Think of how many sunburns you don't get in the summer . Trust me, I've seen many people who would probably kill for tan skin...

Thing is with fair skin like mine is my dermatologist told me that I should avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. If I can't then I have to apply high SPF sunscreen just to keep my skin from getting damaged. I tan, but my skin's too sensetive for direct sunlight without protection.

Not to belittle you, but that's the point I'm trying to make to people who complain about their tan skin. That's a disadvantage to lighter skin; we should really just stop wanting what we can't have, and this is coming from someone who is more guilty of it than anyone. It may be human nature to want what is elusive, but that doesn't mean we can't be happy with what we have.

Haha, I am natuarally pale, really pale, so I don't have this problem. I wish I was a bit more tan though. I like being pale but not too pale. I feel like a ghost sometimes. =p

I found these by googling, but I've not tried any of them:
Quote:
Facial masks that whiten skin, soothe and smooth wrinkles:
Combine 1 raw egg yolk with 1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp of glycerin. Apply to the face and keep for about 2 hours. Wash off with lukewarm water. Keep the rest of the mix in fridge for no more than few days. This facial mask can be repeated 2-3 times a week.
Mix together 100 g of sour cream, 100 g of vodka, juice of 1 lemon and 1 raw egg yolk. Whip and keep in the fridge under tight lid. Apply on a clean face, neck and hands before bed. Wash off in the morning with warm water.
Carefully combine 1 whipped raw egg white, 1tsp of lemon juice, 1 tsp of grated lemon peel and 2 tsp of oats. Mix well and apply to the face. Keep for 10 min. To remove this facial mask soften it with wet cloth and splash your face with cool water afterwards.
Mix together 100 g of honey and juice of 1 lemon. Apply thin layer to the face and keep on for 15 min. Wash off with warm water (no soap).
2, 5 g of gelatin place in 30 ml of water. When gelatin is ready add 60 ml of glycerin and 10 g of honey. Dissolve everything over the steam from boiling water. Cover face and neck using brush or cotton swab. Keep for 10-15 min, wash off with warm water.
Mix together 2 tsp of oat flour, 1 raw egg yolk and 2 grated carrots. Leave on your face for 20 min; wash off first with warm then cold water. Add 20 drops of lemon juice and use this facial mask as whitening.
Put 2 tbsp of yarrow grass and 2 tbsp of chamomile flowers in 750 g of boiling water, cover tightly and steep for 45 min. Wash your face twice a week, every time preparing fresh extract.
Mix together 1 tbsp of linden flowers, 1 tbsp of crushed fennel or parsley and 1 tsp of crushed sage or oak bark. Add 2-3 cups of boiling water and divide everything in half. One half of liquid should be 35-36° C and the other half-24-25° C. Use both halves in rotation to wash your face. Start with hot liquid and end with the cool one. Do it 2-3 times. Repeat the procedure twice a week.
