Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

Not clothes, but I made a pleated sink skirt. It didn't take long to pull the fabric out and go pee, but my cat wasted no time rolling all over the black fabric.
We have no washing machine.
Skirt still looks good, albeit hairy.

LOL Just like a cat!
Which is precisely the reason why this Kitty doesn't craft. The others would mess everything up and nothing would get finished!
I'd love to see the skirt =)

Not clothing, but last year after locking myself out of the house for two hours, I proceeded to construct my own minilith in the backyard, with a rock suspended twig pit and wooden cross made from grass tied branches on top. Needless to say it sort of killed all the grass underneath, crop circle style. While on another occasion, I discovered two dead baby birds then weirdely decided to make a tombstone for them out of slate. Am amazed that the thing is still standing 1000 days later, instead of toppled over.

I have a plain black hoodie I want to modify. On the front I want to put "Noise" and on the back I want to put "Annoys". I'm too cheap to buy spray paint. However, I do have excess bleach lying around the house. Could I bleach the words on, and how would I go about this without just making big holes?

I haven't done it yet myself, but I've been reading about it. I need to get one of those bleach pens. Practice on some scrap fabric first so you don't screw up your hoodie!

How spooky is too spooky? How over the top is toooo over the top?
We are currently DIYing the shit out of our apartment and I can't decide what's too much. Most of the house is red walls, and everything is black furniture and black curtains. I want to put together a mini chandelier with skulls on it or something but I just can't tell if I'm going too spookykid or if it will be just right. The image in my head was like a seedy 40s nightclub/whorehouse. I wanted some tackiness but I don't want it to be lurid or garish.
I think the bigggest problem is that our living room gets zero natural light, and the dark shit doesnnt help.
So much stuff to make. I will post pictures and see what y'all think.

I may have created something a little tiny bit good. The base of pink feathers is from H&M. In it's original state it was a feather flower shaped pin/hairclip type corsage thing, that you can either stick in your hair or pin on as a brooch.
Added on by me is : Taxidermied grouse head, very small glued on crystals, jewellery chain, white feathers (back) Pearl beads(back) Reindeer moss, Tan coloured hackle feathers and 3 small green leaf charms.
It's remarkably girly for one of my things, but I'm so pleased with it, I don't even mind the pink ! Even my mother likes it !

Pigeon wing brooch
Ok so, I have finally used one of my fancy pigeon wings !
I found a broken off tail from a rusty metal cockrel garden ornament, and thus IT WAS BORN :
Also used wire, hackle feathers, pearl beads, a clock spring, and clock hands ^^
It's nearly 12 inches long/high, and it looks best worn at the left shoulder. Pretty hard to miss!!!
I'll wear it next time I go down Camden Market. I got a very surprising number of compliments on my rabbit skull and wing choker , so hopefully this would recieve the same sort of praise.

It looks awesome, honeythorn. When you do wear it to the market would be great to see it (you wearing it) show up in the Picture Post thread. xD

Well, I'm currently in the process of customizing three t-shirts. But I really suck at DIY.

Remember that houndstooth scarf? Tragic story. I started it in December, but I had hurt my right hand badly last fall and for a long time I found knitting painful, so it was slow going. It was meant to be a gift for Mom, but when it became obvious I wasn't getting it done before Christmas, I let her see what I had done, gotten her another gift and said I'd give it to her whenever it was finished.
Then, shortly after I posted the WIP picture here, there was a terrible incident with a supposedly spill proof thermos, coffee and the scarf. I had to frog quite a bit of it and buy more yarn. Then I realized that while it was the same kind of white from the same company, the dye lots were different so what I had done previously was a shade off from what I was now knitting with. Frustrated, I only worked on it bit by bit while getting other projects done, then I barely knitted at all since spring.
Anyway, I finally got the fucker done. And I'm going to make mom jewelry for Christmas I think XD I think this year I'm going to try to make quick projects like jewelry, short uncomplicated scarves and even maybe crochet something. The only big project I got in sight now is an afghan for a certain someone.
Bonus picture: Maleficent cuddling up to Lovecraft who I used to flatten out the the twist.

It's beautiful!!! Although all the pains you had to go through to make it scare me a little. I like the bonus picture too.
I made my first customized shirt yesterday!!! ...*hides away*

That grouse head piece is really amazing to look at...
Coincidentally, this morning I found a bird, dead on my front stoop (or just below it).
Part of me wants to make some use of it, but another part of me is disturbed by the idea of eviscerating a bird carcass... and, maybe it sounds lame, but I'd feel like I was "disrespecting" it... I mean, considering I have no experience with taxidermy, I could very well end up making a huge mess with nothing to show for it.
I kind of wanted to keep its bones/skull, but IDK if I have it in me to gut it and everything... I'll probably just end up burying it in the yard, but is there a way to let it decay naturally and be able to clean/bleach the bones (and do it well) later? You know, without it being shrink-wrapped in bird jerky...
