Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

Just about every outfit I wear out to the clubs nowadays is a DIY project.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...1ab7ef19f3.jpg
There you can see a bit of what I've done: the vertical striped top, fishnet vest, shredded skirt and cormorant bone hair accessories, as well as the bone necklace Bat Brains made for me.
I've also patched and painted up a few jackets and made/altered more band shirts than I can count, and just yesterday threw together a long sleeved top made of some awesome fishnet-like fabric.
Not to mention the litres and litres of bleach I've thrown on everything.
I should really take more pictures of this stuff...

No matter what I do I can't get tights and fishnets to rip in that way

It's all in the type of tights you buy. In my experience the cheapest fishnets with the smallest holes rip the best (also the ones with the roughest texture I guess - the most rip-able ones generally aren't that comfortable).

No, they're not.
When it comes to actually wearing tights like that, I go for the cheap, 50 cent sheer tights you can get in a small plastic egg.
They're not fishnet, but they run and rip up magnificently.
BTW, Cicero, you are a wonderful example of the deathrock fashion. Good show.

I made my first pair of dread hair falls....
They are not finished yet, I still need more hair.
But they are black and blue and I do like them. I just hope that they can stay in my hair. I seem to be having problems putting them in my hair.
I think it's either I made them wrong or I'm not putting my hair into a tight enough bun. When I put them on, they seem to just flop. =/

I'll make my own studded bracelets. I love Crustpunks, great DIY, cheap and the service was great. I'm definately going back for a bullet belt and zippers. I'm planning on making my own bomdage pants.

How exactly are you mounting them? Because really, you should be able to tie them on at the base of your buns rather tightly and they wont go anywhere. Unless you like to headbang or something.
I used weft clips. But since your hair is long enough for a bun, you really don't need weft clips.

You see, this makes no sense to me. Granted, good find on the wrist band, but last time I remembered, crusties were, one of the more poorer versions of punks. Unless they were crusties by choice.
If you were actually a real crust punk, would you really be able to afford a 40 dollar sweater?
I found something equally ironic once. I was looking for some black and gray plaid pants on-line and they were trying to sell the idea that I'd love to wear these pants while I was doing my thrift store shopping. WTF? 60 dollar pair of pants.

I don't buy the shirts and stuff, I prefer to make my own. I'm learning screen printing and can design my own stuff. Granted, most of the shit is overpriced, but the studs and patches are cheap, so I went with them instead of AY+P. Crusties are a poorer version of punks. Most of the music sucks, and they smell really bad. The music is just knock off grindcore slowed down a bit, in my eyes that is.

Yeah, I just find it to be rather ironic, that's all.
AY+P and this site as well... doesn't jive with me because of the marketing. YOU'RE POOR SO WE DECIDED THAT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO SPEND 50 DOLLARS ON THIS SHIRT THAT'S ALREADY RIPPED TO SHIT FOR YOU!

Here here. DIY is just so much better, I love it! Wearing what you made just feels good.

Like how I'm told to mount them? I went to the I kick shins website to figure how to get them on.
I really do think I made them wrong. They are very heavy and want stay. I used 6 bags of hair and its still not enough to cover my buns. I need more hair still, and it just keeps getting heavier and heavier.

6 bags of hair? That really doesn't sound right at all.
Look, you should be able to take your dreads, line them up and thread some lace or string through them. Then, if you can imagine it, when you tie the dreads around the base of your bun, some dreads will hang under the bun, while others will drape over the bun. You NEED only about 8 dreads minimum to cover a bun.
6 bags... holy shit. You need to talk to Saddiction.

Heh, thanks. I was going to cover it in lots of little band logos but I decided to use that one on its own after I saw your shirt. Good work on that! Did you use spray paint?
And back off to uni soon, in Bristol.

I used spray paint for the black circle/planet. But everything else is fabric paint.

Ah right. Are there any specific spray paints you have to/should use on fabrics?

I made a new Sex Gang Children back patch. It looks awesome on my form fitting blazer.

I have no idea. I just got a can of Wilkinsons own and used that. Just don't spray too close.

An update on my jacket.
I now have a DIY patch on one of the front blazer pockets saying "Autonomy Not Uniformity".
Also, I have a sweet cobweb effect on the right sleeve made of a knee high stocking. I shredded it up real good and stitched it onto the sleeve in different spots on the sleeve to give it a nice deathrockish cobweb look.
