Nobody can tell you how to dress, and it's not that important anyway.

Hrrmm... tips.. any useful tips. Since you're asking, I find a lot of good gothable things in op shops which are cheaper than buying "goth" stuff, and sometimes it's good to go very dark brown dye before you go black to get used to it.

Play at home with any makeup or hair products to see what you like I guess. There's a DIY thread here if you have anything in mind but don't know how to do it.

Ps. We're not so gothy here anymore, this place was a Gothic Literature site and has now kind of turned into a vaguely alternative 4Chan.

There shouldn't really be any guidelines about what to wear, since 'being goth' is about a lot more than clothes. Having said that, black leather is good. And steampunk style stuff if you like that sort of thing. And jewellery. Especially silver jewellery (you could start with a simple chain necklace or bracelet). Whatever takes your fancy really.

I make most of my clothes so I can't be that helpful in terms of good alternative shops. But you can quite easily adapt a lot of things from 'normal' shops.

Having short hair needn't stop you making a statement with it. From your picture (I'm assuming that's you) it looks pretty dark already, but if you want to dye it even darker by all means do. Or you could go for a really bright blue. My ex boyfriend has naturally black hair and wears silver glitter in it, which looks pretty cool. What you're comfortable with is the limit really.

PS: I'm getting green stripes in my hair.
