I started liking them when one (the first one I had ever seen not in a picture) looked me square in the eye while I was in middle school. It was on the ceiling of the awning outside and I looked up, then it looked at me. It was love at first sight.

Thanks! I too love praying mantids. I've had three, at separate times. I like how they can look alien, yet human at the same time. It's sad that they only live about nine months.
Did you know that their eyes go entirely black in the dark? It is pretty scary to turn the lights on and see that.
