I found out a couple days ago that Penny Dreadful has been resurrected as a spin-off series. Frankly, I was very surprised.
I completely loved the early seasons of the series, they were just downright amazing, the visuals especially so, but the last season... Oh, it was such a bitter disappointment. It still looked beautiful, but it was so, so hollow and stupid. I kept facepalming at what idiocy on top of idiocy they kept throwing at the screen. A great series had been reduced to nothing but garbage in a pretty package. A jumping of the shark, if there ever was one.
I'm very surprised indeed that this thing had the nerve to crawl back after that debacle.
Now I have mixed expectations about this new series. I sincerely hope they get it back to its roots, but I fear it'll be as bad as the last season and just look uglier. I hope I'm wrong.
Anyone else have thoughts about this? No? I'm still talking to myself even though I saw a new name among the tombstones today?
