So I got this coat...
Digging in my great-grandmother's closet today, we came across this AWESOME coat. She said it had been hanging in there for close to 25 years. The liner I'm going to replace. (a few tears...just old). But it's made of this wonderful heavy wool and looks like it walked right out of the 50's. I wanna spruce it up, but this is no ordinary t-shirt or skirt. This is gonna take some thought. WHAT A WONDERFUL FIND!
Anyway, here's a mock-up of it I did on photoshop. (don't laugh, I was in a hurry)
Any suggestions, guys? BTW, the coat is black. ~DUH~

Well I was kinda wanting to "gothify" it...
I like the lace idea...maybe a red-over-black comming out from under the cuffs and collar...

OK, so I've ripped out the lining.
I added silver grommets on the back to make a corset-type back to it....with black ribbon.
It's on hold though...till I can get to wal-mart to buy red satin for new lining and lace for sleeves and collar...
I also noticed a worn spot on the back...it's only about the size of a nickel...but it needs covered or fixed somehow.
A patch, maybe?

You could have something embroidered onto the front of it...or what I've seen some people do, is they take a doily or some sort of patterned lace and sew it on the center of the back of the jacket.

Replace the lining with deep purple velvet or silk then holepunch down the back (Put metal rounds in to prevent tearing) and lace red/black/purple ribbon through the holes to create a graveyard effect. It'll look really cool if you lengthen the sleeves so they come just past your knuckles when you wear it. But that's just my opinion on clothes. I like to cover my hands so you can just see my black nail varnish.

On the pockets, you should do try a red or silver embroidered lace. There and on the collar too. I suggest you use red to match the cuffs.
^^ hope it helps

Well I finished it...(unless something marvelous comes to mind)
I replaced the corset ribbon on the back with purple.
Replaced lining with purple satin.
Added purple faux fur to cuffs.
Also made a scarf out of left-over purple fur.
*huge thumbs up*
I keep getting comments from people. "Where'd you get that?" "Wow I bet that cost a pretty penny."
I love the look on people's faces when you tell them that you made something spectacular!

I'm not one for faux fur, but it sounds like you made it work.

Well my dear,
Many years ago, this used to be a thriving community, but then it became so full of absolute bull shit it, choked itself mostly to death, and now, now it just refuses to have the decency to just die.
